Doctor Profile
Dr Dawn Harper
Dr Dawn spends half her week in general practice in Gloucestershire (where she specializes in women’s health, family health, and preventative medicine) and the other half of her week spent researching, writing newspaper columns and broadcasting about various aspects of medicine. A regular on BBC Breakfast News, Dawn was also on hand to find out Who’ll Age Worst? for UKTV, whilst she continues to run a private clinic focusing on women’s health and weight management issues.
Dawn has recently contributed to the Government Funded Project ‘Making Sense of Health’, a one-stop health resource for teachers, parents, and students in primary and secondary education. Her new book, Dr Dawn’s Health Check (£14.99, Octopus Publishing) dispels myths and gives the facts on the most common ailments and diseases – from how to combat jet lag, through what works for PMS, to when can you have sex after a heart attack!
Together with Dr Pixie, Dr Dawn is part of Team GP, a group of media doctors who will be cycling from London to Paris for Action Medical Research, a charity specialising in children’s health. They’ll be raising money for the charity’s Touching Tiny Lives appeal, which aims to reduce life-threatening pregnancy complications and premature birth, and improve care for sick babies. The ride sets out from London on Wednesday 22 July and arrives in Paris four days later on Saturday 24 July, the day before the final stage of the Tour De France finishes along the same streets.
