Halitosis

Bacteria from bad breath

There’s no shame in having halitosis (or bad breath, as it is more commonly known). In fact, 95% of us suffer from bad breath at some time in our lives, and one in four adults suffers from bad breath on a regular basis. A quick way to test the potency of your breath is to lick the inside of your wrist with the back of your tongue, let it dry for a few seconds, and then smell. If you subsequently find yourself recoiling in horror from a foul stench, then you should perhaps consider visiting your dental hygienist. Bad breath usually stems from poor oral hygiene (including neglecting the tongue area, which hosts the bacteria that cause bad breath). However, smoking and drinking too much alcohol can also contribute. Sprays, mints and chewing gum will only temporarily mask your bad breath, whereas improving your oral hygiene will ultimately pay-off.

If you’re suffering from any of the conditions featured on this site and want to apply for an onscreen consultation with one of the EB team then you can find more details here >>

so many people have this bad breath thing. (me included). There's 4 different ways bad breath arrives: Thru the nasal post-drip that runs from the nose to the back of the mouth\tongue. There are the 2 well known causes, the Tongue (incl the back of thetongue) and inbetween the teeth. But the worst of all is the one that comes from the crypts/ pockets in the pallatine tonsils on either side of the back of the mouth. This one will embarass you regardless of how good your oral hygiene is. its more genetic \ or as a result of a previous tonsil infection. Some people have their tonsils removed for this one, and what i want to know is whether there's a special tool you can buy that will make it easier to access that area of the mouth and remove those sewage smelling little stones.

why oh why do doctors not take bad breath more seriously, do they not realise that it ruins peoples lives. do they not realise that any one with bad breath konws that they have it and have probably tried everything on the market. is there some where you can go to volunteer to do trials on products that may help. seriously bad breath is one of the most annoying and embarassing problems that there is it is like farting in some ones face. please help.

I used to have bad breath but just a good gentle tooth brushing, mouthwash and BEST OF ALL tongue scraping really does a treat! The best one I found is Dentek you can get it from large chemists. And you can really see what horrible things grow on your tongue each day! Really scrape the surface of your tongue especially the back and is honestly a MIRACLE! Or atleast significantly reduces bad breath!

Hi,
I've suffered from bad breath for years. it's affected my confidence and I never stand too close to people incase they can smell my breath. I suffer from post nasal drip and asked to be referred to the Ears, Nose and Throat specialist. She recommended a product called Neilmed Sinus Rinse. It's amazing! My mouth feels so much cleaner. I also discovered 2 dental products which help promote good bacteria in the mouth. They are Therabreath and K-Force. You'll find them on the internet. They're not cheap but they do work and they have a lot more advice to give than the doctors and dentists in this country. Hope this helps! Take care x

I have really bad breath even straigt after i clean my teeth and have used mouthwash, i then went to my local dentist and they just recommened some mouthwash but that still did'nt work so im constantly chewing gum all the time!

hello- I am suffering from bad breath. I have tired everything to make it go away. It has affected my work and social life. Please help me.
