Alopecia

Alopecia

When presenter Gail Porter lost much of her hair because of alopecia she refused to wear a hat or wig, deciding instead to maintain a public profile and raise awareness of the condition. Alopecia is an autoimmune hair loss disease that affects 1 in 100 people, and can strike men, women or children of any age. The onset of hair loss is often sudden, random and recurrent, and can lead to either patchy or complete loss of hair on the scalp or body. The notoriously familiar male/female pattern baldness is another form of the condition. There is no single cause – it can be hereditary or genetic, the result of trauma or stress, or even medication. However, people who have had eczema, asthma or a thyroid disease are more prone to the condition. There is no known cure or proven therapy to induce hair re-growth, but there are various treatments available. Hair loss isn’t damaging to health, but it can prove challenging.

im no 22, about a year and a half ago i discovered a bald patch at the back of my head.. was really concious aout it as can be imagined.. tried covering it by growing my hear. anyway went to the gp and was told it was alopecia. they gave me some cream or wahetever it didnt work. I then ran into someone who knew a lot about herbal and natural treatment. and basically his advice was to kinda scrape the surface of the skin with a razor or some kinda blade, and then apply garlic. so basically cut a garlic, and apply it so that the juice from the garlic gets onto the skin, it should sting about. do this for a couple of weeks and it should grow back. Mine did, but then i discovered another patch lol almost straight away the other one had healed. but i did the same thing with the garlic and it has now also healed.. jus hoping its not gna happen again hehe..

I am 13 and i have a bald patch
it keeps getting bigger tho:(

hi im 25 female and i am going really thin on the top its getting so bad now everyone is on about it its really gettin me down i have been taking some vit from the health shop but they dont work is there anything out there that i could use ?

my alopecia started when i was completing my gcse exams… the patches grew back, then different patches formed around a year later.

i am now 19 and this cycle has happened every year.

the doctors did absolutely NOTHING to help me, despite it being noticeable, and me being on the verge of 'depressed'.

most of the time it should grow back, especially if it is areata. it's just a horrible thing that happens to quite a lot of us according to the stats.

hi.
i am 15 years old i have alopecia well it comes and go's. my hair is growing back now but most of the back of my head i have no hair on and behind my ears. i first got it when i was about 8 years old the doctor said there is nothing that he could do about it but it was not that bad. i now get it every few years and everytime it gets worse last time i lost about 90% of my hair and had to have a wig.
i have seen a consultant and he said there is nothing they can do.
I am always thinking that people are looking and talking about me, and don't go out alot because of it. I hate going to school.

I am 21 years old and my hair has been falling from the root since i was around 18/19. Since i've started using a shampoo and a serum I see some growth on the hairline but i'm not sure if it's an illusion or just seeing things so i was wondering, how would i know if its growing back?

I am 18 and quite healthyand i am deaf but my problem is my hair has recently started falling out in large amounts. i have had a child who is one but i was wondering what may have caused it and if there is any way to stop it. PLEASE HELP ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY
