Conditions
Blushing
Although many of these conditions could leave you red in the face – blushing is brief, milder, and often seen as a reflection of embarrassment, guilt or nervousness. Other causes include spicy foods, high fever, exercise, certain drugs and the menopause, where women experience the infamous hot flushes. Blushing happens when tiny muscles in the blood vessels relax allowing more blood to pass through, whilst flushing makes the person markedly red on the face and other areas of the skin. The latter can be brought on by lots of reasons similar to blushing, but allergic reactions and dehydration can contribute to this. Rosacea, on the other hand, is a condition that looks like a flush or a blush, and can progress from persistent to intermittent redness with pimples without blackheads and red lines where the blood vessels of the face become prominent. Aggravated by certain foods and environments, rosacea responds to treatment but is incurable.

Hi, I am 15 years old and i always go red. There isn't a day when i dont go red. When am with my friends and they ask me something i just go red, When am with my family,When i meet new people, or in some lessons when the teacher asks me a question i just go red and by red i mean bright red. when i go red someone shouts out why are you blushing? this makes me go even more red. i feel really embarressed and hate myself because of it. This has been happening to me for about 2 years. when go red i say to myself why am i going red? theres nothing to feel embarrassed about. but it does'nt go down. I am planning to go see my doctor and see what he says and if he has any medication for it. if any of you can help please do. Thank you.
I am 15 years old too. It all started when someone pointed out that I was going red, at this time I never used to go red that much. Them saying this made me think about it and I then started thinking about it way too much. This caused me to go red everytime someone even called my name. One of my close friends kept pointing out that I was going red and this made me even redder. I can't bare to be around her now because I feel like she is constantly watching me and her presence makes my face feel like it is burning. So now I avoid loud people that I know will make me blush, when I am with my quiet friends I hardly blush. I did go to the doctor and she prescribed me with Beta Blockers, they help calm you down. However, they didn't work for me. Next on my list is to try hypnosis and then if that fails then I will thinking about having surgery (I know this is major) however, blushing is ruining my life. Stay strong and tell you parents or someone you can trust. Once you have told someone how you feel, then it can only get better. I know the feeling of a burning face, sweaty palms and having to look away because you are so embarassed. I know the feeling of coming home and feeling like rubbish and crying. I am glad there is someone out there just like me, let me know how you get on at the doctors.
SO I am just back from the doctor, and yes it s confirmed, I have rosacea. The doctor prescribed a topical anti biotic, have to return to him in Jan to follow up and see how the treatment goes for me. Glad that I finally over came my embarrassment and now I can hopefully finally get this under control!
Hey all! I am a 29 yr old female, and have suffered with flushing around the nose and cheeks, red nose, red tiny spots on the nose which when they burst release a clear fluid which crusts if i do not clean it. Stupidly I thought that the redness and flushing was simply my skin tone(i suffered adult acne from 19-27,which left scarring)and with me feeling preety conscious about my skin. However the past year and a half I have suffered massively with flushes, spots on nose and redness. I put the spots on my nose down to whiteheads, however they are most certainly not whiteheads and today I am finally off to my doctor to discuss this embarrassing issue and hopefully get some answers. Good luck to all!
Having tried many products similar and most a lot more expensive, I was reluctant with my expectations of anything new. I have a lot of redness around my eyes and after about a week and a half of daily use of the Made from Earth Rosehip Hibiscus Serum, I actually could see the redness has lessened. With continued use, about three weeks now, it still seems to be improving. Even though I am 61, I don't have a big issue with wrinkles. Over all, I am very pleased with the results and the price!
hi im 15 years old and i have a problem with blushing it has been happening to me for about a year now and i cant control it i cant get through one single day at school without blushing and getting teased by my mates is there any way i can stop this?
Hi Well I have suffered from severe blushing for around the last 15 years I am now a 38 year old male. Its got to the point where I blush even infront of my own family, I constantly worry about blushing and being red. If I have been put into a situation which I am nervous about like public speaking I panic and get even redder. If someone says to me your looking a bit red I will go red. If I have been in the cold and go into a hot room I go purple. If I am stressed ill go red its not just my face its my ears and neck. My face is even hot to the touch. Its got to the point where I just about cannot go anywhere without thinking about being red.I worry about it all day long its ruining my life.. I take propranool and dosulepin, but it doesnt seem to be working.. What about ENT treatment? I hope one of the doctors may see this post I really am desperate for some help!!
Hi Marcus, your story sounds like my life, I'm a female aged 20 and have suffered for 3 years. Ive never had the confidence to go to my doctor, as i fear i will go red talking to him about it. I also blush in front of my family and try to avoid eating out at restaurants, the amount of foundation i go through is scary, as i feel this is the only way to hide it. I have decided to ask my neighbour for help as he is a qualified hypnotherapist, and maybe my condition is in my head. The more you think about going red, the more likely it is going to happen. I will have a session or two with him, and then can get back in touch and see if it has helped me, maybe this could help you too.
Hi Laura, Its just horrible isnt it, just ruins your life. I would love to hear how your session goes with the hypnotist. Is there a way I can give you my email address? marcus
I dont know if we can give out email addresses on this site or not. If we cant i will post the results back on this page. I agree with you, i also hope the doctors could do an episode on this problem.
Hi Laura, Let me know what happens with the hypnotist, and yes I wish there was an episode on severe blushing. marcus
Hi Marcus - I'm a 43 year old woman who has blushed all my life but its got worse in the last couple of years, I can go red just by thinking about it - from the top of my forehead, my ears, the whole of my face, my neck and my chest goes bright red. A woman at work said what's wrong with you, you look like a tomato - I nearly ran out of the building in tears. Its ruining my life also, I never used to be this bad but it even happens at the hairdressers, in front of my family, when I'm on the phone!! I do get very anxious about the silliest of things and I think maybe that brings it on. I'm afraid I cannot offer any advice but it's just good to read that I'm not the only one, because sometimes it feels like I am. I can't go to the GP because I'm ashamed of it, even though he must have noticed I go red when I go to see him! It's a terrible thing that nobody takes seriously. I'm not joking when I say you could fry an egg on my face! take care, hope you find some help
hi marcus. i can totaly relate to your comment. i started to get really bad flushing when i was 18, and being a pretty confident young chap, it really effected my self esteam and my confidence vanished. i would go red if i was embarrased, tired hot anxious and the more i thought about it the worst it got.i started to become abit of a recluce and this is the worst thing i could of done, as im convinced a large part of it is pycological. the only time i would go and see my mates at the wkend was if i started drinking before i went out as this gave me confidence which made me go less red confirming to me alot of it was im my head. although the alcahol would trigger the flushin instantly, i would go sit in my car with the air conditioning on full to calm it down. day to day i wud drive around with the air con on. it was -5 dgrees outside. ha ha.. the best advice i can give is learn to live with it and accept that it happens and you will become less bothered by it. the happier i am the less it happens. drink loads of water. gettin out in the sun helps and DONT avoid doing things because your face goes red. lifes to short.
Hi, I'm 23. I have had problems with blushing for years! I do not think you have rosacea, tho you cam confirm this with your doctor. I have tried many medications trying to find something that would help. I used a medication known as Propranolol it is a small pink tablet and is a beta blocker. They are used for many uses including anxiety. This for me was my main cause of blushing. It seems as soon as you feel like you may blush, you are! It had bothered me for so long though these have helped me hugely. Out of the range of prescription drugs I have tried these gave me positive results. Research them and speak to your doctor also! Hope this helps people!

Hi. I am 25 and for years I have suffered with this same embarrassing blotchy red rash that appears on my neck, chest, tops of my arms and sometimes my cheeks. It happens at all times like when i'm nervous, embarrassed, excited, upset, angry. It happens when i'm hot, somtimes when i drink alcohol too. It really gets me down as its just so embarrassing especially when it happens when in a public place and people comment, like 'oh you've got a big red rash all over' or 'oh why have you gone so red?' Ive never been to my doctor about it as I just think they will laugh at me! I just wish there was a miracle cure as its ruining my confidence. I want to be able to wear nice dresses etc without worrying about going all red and blotchy :(
