Bunion

A bunion on the side of a foot

Even the perfectly polished Posh Spice has suffered with a bunion. In fact, the ‘size zero’ fashionista had two of them – one on each foot – that were almost as enormous as her legendary shades! Affecting women more frequently than men, bunions are a common foot problem that can cause the big toe to be angled inwards, towards the second toe. Some of these bony outcrops can be painless, but there may be some discomfort if the skin and tissue on the bunion’s bump becomes inflamed, swollen and painful, making walking difficult. Shoes can also feel uncomfortable, especially if they’re high-heeled, tight or pointed (and are often the cause of bunions). The other toes can be affected too as they get pushed tightly together, occasionally resulting in ingrown toenails and infection. Other than corrective surgery, bunions can’t be cured. However, there are a number of treatments available…and you can always wear comfortable shoes, rather than something crippling and expensive!

i am 13 and i have a 2 bunions on both feet i have to wear a size 8 show and all my toes are bent , and i want to get them removed does the sergery hurt ?:(:(:(:(:(

I'm female, age: 29 years old and I have bunions on most of my foot toes and also on have fucus on my foot nails which make me losing my foot nails very occassionally just on putting my socks on. My foot nails seems to be very fragile and not holding up to my skin strongly enough.
I went to see a doctor specilist on dermatology when I was in france. But the treatment given didn't seem to be efficient enough.
What should I do next? This situation is really putting me under so much embarassement as around me most of the people I know have normal feet and get to wear sandals and open shoes which I can not even imagine buying. I always try to hide mine as I really can not stand them anymore. But I would like to be able to show them and being able to wear open shoes and to go down the beach without feeling embarrassed of my feet an stop looking for the the bit of sand which will hide them.

Hi on my toes the skin has been rub off they are not bunions/corns as a black women i can not wear any open toes shoes as i do not like my feet, i do not like to showing my feet in public, have tried to cover them with make up but it does not look good, i have been very unhappy how they look, i am even thinking of going to my doctor to see if i can have surgery on my feet that is how bad i am, i need to get something done.

Heyaa i have bunions .. up to 4 on each foot… its summer and i cant even wear nice shoes… is there any possible way of gettin rid of them with out and injections etc….
many thanks
T….

I'm 21 and have just had my first operation to have one bunion removed, I have the second one scheduled for next week. It is not too painful an operation although it requires 2 weeks of complete bed rest and a lot of patience. So far I am happy with the results and hope that they will make my life a lot easier.

A lot of sufferers have recommended FitFlops as they are very comfortable and offer a lot of support.

I also have tried special orthopedic insoles which were moulded to my feet with a bump behind the ball of the foot which relieves pressure, which I highly recommend.

I am 15, and have suffered from bunions for about 3 years now, but I didn't know they were bunions at first I have 2 on each foot, I then went to my GP because I wanted to be able to wear nice shoes for my prom, my GP then sent me to a podiatrist which then found loads of other problems like arthritis, 1 leg being longer than the other and also the muscles in my legs and ancles being very tight. He then took molds of my feet and gave me insoles because I also have flat feet and I have a cushion thing in my left shoe to make the leg longer so I wont need a new hip in a few years.
Also under my little toe, the skin has become very hard and really painful, which means when I walk for a long time the skin cracks and bleeds and is very painful and hurts to walk for a few weeks, also the nails on my big toe hurts the skin and is very red and painful.
I don't know what to do because nobody can answer my questions, can you please help me?

I had a bunion on each foot (plus numbness in one of my big toes) and had 2 separate operations to correct these, the best decision I have ever made. After the ops I didn't have any pain which I was so surprised about as I had read articles to the contrary. I can now wear pretty shoes and don't feel embarrassed any longer to show my feet. I tend to wear flatter shoes but if necessary could wear a higher heel if it was a special occasion.

I don't know if I have bunions. My feet have always been the way they are, very sharp and angled on the knuckle of the big toe, it is very noticible but my big toe doesn't really angle in that much, or hurt. So is it a bunion or generally wierd feet?

hi had bunion surgery foot now nice and straight but developed tibialis postererior has anybody else suffered this after surgery

Hi, Im 28 and have ugly bunions on both feet. I wear flat shoes mostly for work. I do wear heals still on nights out as I feel too short in flat shoes! I would love to wear those gladiator sandels that are in fashion at the moment but they would look awful on my feet!
I try not to let my weird looking feet stop me doing things like swimming, or chilling out on the beach when on holiday. Most people dont really take much notice of feet anyway… so dont let these crusty ugly bunions get us down.
