Corns
Corns are areas of dry, thick skin that develop to protect areas of your foot from constant pressure and rubbing. They are often very hard to the touch, and are frequently les sensitive than the rest of the foot due to the thickness of the skin. Although having a certain number of corns is normal (and frequently not painful) women who wear high-heels and ill-fitting footwear will often develop more corns. Treatment is relatively simple, and can be carried out by a podiatrist, who will remove the hard skin that surrounds the corn and then the actual centre. These corns will come back, however, unless changes are made to the distribution of pressure on the foot. For this you may require customised in-soles, or foam wedges.

Im 15, and i have a corn on my foot. My family think its unusual for someone at my age. I dont wear uncomfortable footwear, or squeeze my feet into smaller shoes. And i dont do major walks and put my feet under pressure. It isnt painful. But its starting to turn into a few. Im scared to get it removed because of the pain. Is there any other solution?
I'm not sure if I have corns but I have this hardening of skin on my hands and feet and where it's hardened I have a loss of sensation. Sometimes it really hurts as my skin also peels a lot and my skin also wrinkles and cracks. I also suffer from being quite clammy I don't know if that's associated with it. Please help I can't touch anyone!!!

Hi
If you have painful corns, please ask your gp to refer you to your local NHS podiatry service for free treatment. If the corns keep coming back you may need special insoles/a biomechanical assessment and advice about your shoes.
