Conditions
Crohn’s Disease
Crohn’s disease is an internal condition that can affect a sufferer externally. It occurs when the wall of the affected part of the gut becomes inflamed and the inflammation causes one or more of the following symptoms: pain, ulcers, diarrhoea, anaemia, anal fissures and rectal bleeding, loss of weight, loss of appetite, and feeling lethargic. Symptoms vary depending on the part of the gut affected and there are many options for treating this chronic, episodic, inflammatory bowel disease, although there is no known drug-based or surgical cure for it. The exact cause of Crohn’s Disease is not known, but it’s thought there may be a genetic link, as there’s some evidence that it runs in families (1 in 10 people with the condition have a close relative who also has it). Crohn’s Disease is more common in smokers and in women who use the combined oral contraceptive pill..

hi i had a operation in april 2009 for helping me to keep food down. iwas told many yrs ago that i had crohn`s and the reason for being sick was reflux. so i had a operation that took a small section away so my food could be trained to go a differant root. this has worked. but the problem i have now is the operation has left me with a fistula caused by a feeding tube into the gut that was not inflated. and punched the inside`s of me. causing me to get poisened another operation was need. which left me with a large opened wound. and a bag attached to collect all the body acid. finally after 5 operations and 5 month`s in hospital. i came home but still have the fitula. and have it packed every day. they say it is a tracking one. do you think that there is any hope for me to get further help .because i have tryed and get no were please would you give me some advice many thanks
Me and my parents suffer from fatigue. My mum was told she had fibromyalgia a year ago and my dad has been unwell for six months and has had many blood tests and checks. I had a water infection at Christmas now after getting rid of it I'm constantly tired. We have all seemed to get severe fatigue after being unwell. My mum had a cold. We had family tragedy which made my dad depressed then ill and me a water infection. Could it be that 3 people that live together all have m.e?
I'm 20 years old and for the past 6 months I have been struggling with a huge list of symptoms that are making me miserable. I have 'googled' them and everyone is telling me it could be 'Crohn's Disease', I feel as though my doctors laugh at me and don't listen and I'm fed up of being prescribed Buscopan when it doesn't help me. I am always tired, I mostly either go to bed really early (8pm) and/or sleep in until gone 1pm the next day. I have the constant need to go to the toilet and not just for a wee. I also found bright red blood in my stool today, which has worried me and is why I am contacting this. My periods are also really heavy, painful and irregular, I often get really bad mouth ulcers, I'm extremely irritable (my partner gets the brunt of this). I have constant sharp stomach pains even when I am not on my period and I'm beginning to lose the will to live. Please can someone give me some advice! I feel like I'm going mad xx
Hi Melissa, I was diagnosed with Crohns disease 10 years ago when I was 14 and as I've grown up and had more tests it is now treated as colitis. When I am poorly I have sudden urges to go to the toilet, stomach spasms, blood etc. Does this sound familiar to you? I would go to your GP and insist on being refered to a gastrontrologist. GP's are good but not experts in this field and if you do have inflammatory bowel disease you need it treating as it will not simply get better by itself. Also don't get too scared by the internet as I google my condition and it makes me feel worse. Just concerntrate on getting the right help and treatment.
My name is jonathan and was diagnosed with chrons 14 months ago and im afraid to say your symtoms sound very like mine you need to get your gp to refer you to a hospital gastro clinic because gp,s find chrons difficult to spot but your not alone and with the right drugs and treatment you can lead a normal life so dont give in you will be ok.

Im 19 and I have suffered IBS for years but I feel like it was clearing away as I havn't had any trouble with it for a while. For about 9 months I have had a lot of trouble going to the toilet, I get into so much pain, its very hard and uncomfertable to do the toilet. I bleed and i often cry in pain, please help!!
Since March 2010, my bowel habits havn't been normal: constipation and diarrhea and then back to normal, not so much as diarrhea but more loose stools as i don't go frequently. Also been having some dull pains, ometimes quick sharp ones, around the sides and top mid of my abdomen, sometimes after ive eaten. From around 7 months ago my stools have been coming out quite tarry, along with being loose, but sometimes theyve been normal with black-ish/tarry bits in them the size of a smartie. Went to the doctor 2 months ago and got a blood test and was given mebeverene tablets and fybagel sachets. Blood test showed that ive an ever-so-slightly low rbc count and was given folic acid tablets. Then a month ago i saw red smudges along the mucus on stools, ive had mucus in stools since march 2010 as well, maybe longer. Went to the doctor, got a rectal exam there and them and he diagnosed IBS and was given mebeverene again. The symptoms are still therte and i think it might be more than IBS. Stomach's hurting right now. Anyone have anything similar? thank you for reading.
It sounds to me like it it ibs too. If the pain gets too much or startsvto impact on your health your gp can prescribe anti depressants which can help relieve the pain. Also try pro biotic yoghurt drinks daily as these can sometimes help! Keep an eye on your stools and if you notice any darker blood especially then go back to your gp as this could be something more serious such as crohns, colitis or bowel cancer.

Sounds like chrons get your gp to refer you to a hospital gastro clinic there is treatment and you can live a normal life.
I was diagnosed with IBS after a blood test 2 months ago and a rectal exam 3 weeks ago. I had to take folic acid tablets because my rbc count was ever so slightly low (still taking them). My bowels habits have been odd since march 2010, switching from constipation and diarrhea, both not frequent, mostly loose stools, and from 7 months ago they've been coming out quite tarry (nearly black), only sometimes though, and sometimes they have black flecs, usually the size of smarties, in them. From a month ago ive been seeing red smudges in the mucus around them ( there's always mucus on them). I'm worried that its more severe than IBS. Any thoughts?
