Cystitis

Checking the results of a Cystitis Test

Cystitis is an infection of the bladder and is most common in women, with around one in six getting cystitis each year. Children and men can also get cystitis, though for men the cause could be more serious, such as an underlying bladder or prostate infection, an obstruction or tumour, or an enlarged prostate. Women who have cystitis for the first time should consult their GP for advice, as should men, if they experience a feeling akin to passing white hot molten metal. Mild cystitis will often clear up on its own after 2-4 days, but over-the-counter painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen can be taken to reduce discomfort, and a trusty carton of cranberry juice can often relieve the symptoms of an attack. You should also abstain from sex until the infection has cleared up. We’re only talking a few days, so the nun’s habit and one-way ticket to the monastery isn’t necessary.

I'm 21 years old and for as long as remember i've been getting urine infections, i go to the doctors and say to them this is what i've got and i'm always right, they give me antibiotics they feel like its cleared up, only then to have sex with my man and within a day or two it comes back, so i go back to the doctors and they say i have one again they give me more tablets and so on, to be honest i think i am getting these urine infections too often and i think it could be something else more serious but i just dont no what, its really getting me down as i really cant enjoy sex as i go to the loo before it and then 9 times out of the 10 i need to stop during to go to the loo again and again at the end which to me is abnormal and never used to happen its only been recantly, it also ruins my day as if travling long distances i need to stop at least every half hour just to go to the loo. This is really affecting me and i dont no what to do and feel my doctors are not examining me more closely have you any advice of what this can be, beacuse i clearly dont have a clue.

Im 25 years old and got what i thought was a normal bout of cystitis in June '09. I'd had it before a couple of times, but it always went with over the counter medicine. This time however it refused to go and i went to the docs who prescibed me antibiotics – which didnt work! Ive had mild cystitis symptoms now for 5 months adn this week it has flared up awfully – my back ache has caused me to stay off work and im weeing every 30 minutes. I have abdominal pain, back ache and it hurts when i have sex. I went to the docs again today and he has organised a cystoscopy (?) a camera into my bladder. Im in constant pain and its so uncomfortable – i cant work and the docs just said "take some paracetamol!" Its making me so depressed – i had a miscarriage in April and this is just the last straw. Ive been told stress and depression can exaggerate the symptoms. Aghhhh!! Anyone in a similar boat out there? Help!

I'm 17 and ive suffered from cytitis quite a few times, around 3 times so far this year. i constantly need to use the toilet and when i go hardly anything comes and it stings after! i need to go all the time and it ruins my day, i dont know how i can go to college with it as i'm always rushing to the toilet, i can't sit comfortably with it. i've been to a sexual health clinic and they gave me antibiotics, and it worked at the time but now i have it less than two months later and i would just like to know whats going on and if there's anything i can do to prevent it, ive been drinking sooooo much water and cranberry juice, and all that happens is i need to go loo more! HELP! i would also like to know if having enlarged labia affects this? help!

i am 17 yearsold and for as long as i can remember i suffer quite badly from cystitis. for months i will not suffer from it at all but then all of a sudden it will re-appear and i will suffer from it for weeks on end. i constantly feel the urge to go to the toilet immediatly but when i go only a trickle will come out or nothing at all. often it is trigered after sex and often when i use a condom. i have been to the doctor when i have suffered from it but each time he simply prescribes me with medicne. it is beginning to really effect me during these times of it being bad, is there something i should worry about? please help me!

hi, after havin sex with my boyfreind around 1-2days after i get what i class as cystitus back again.. and i need a wee constantly! i am forever running to the toilet. and if i dont get there quick enough then… and it is a really painful burning feelings after i am weeing. some one please help me im only 16 and i have this!!!!

I am 32 and i have always suffered on and off with cystitis, but for the last year or so i seem to get it the week before and after my period, whether i get my period or not. I have seen my doctor about this and just get the comment that i am "one of those women that suffer from it".
I have had swabs taken for infection and they always come back negative.
Any suggestions?

This is exactly what i'm experiencing. I've had these cystitus syptoms for about 6 months on and off. I desperately need a wee every 10 minutes and when i do go hardly anything comes out except a burning pain at the end. I had been using cystitus relief but it only works for a short period of time. The pain flares up after having sex with my boyfriend. please help!

Im 18 and have exacly the same problems. I think im at the doctors at least 3 times a month with it. I have it all the time. I get prescribed antibiotics, probably about 2/3 weeks worth and everyhings great while iv got the tablets then when i come off them it comes straight back as soon as i have sex with my bf, Docs have said hey wont give me them anymore because i'll end up becoming resilliant to them but now they wont give me them im in constant pain with it… Its always at its worst when iv been on a night out and i go for a wee the next day. Please help i dont know what to do anymore especially now the docs wont give me anymore tablets. I drink loads of water and the cranberry juice doesnt really do much apart from make me feel sick iv had that much. Please plase help!!!
