Cystitis

Checking the results of a Cystitis Test

Cystitis is an infection of the bladder and is most common in women, with around one in six getting cystitis each year. Children and men can also get cystitis, though for men the cause could be more serious, such as an underlying bladder or prostate infection, an obstruction or tumour, or an enlarged prostate. Women who have cystitis for the first time should consult their GP for advice, as should men, if they experience a feeling akin to passing white hot molten metal. Mild cystitis will often clear up on its own after 2-4 days, but over-the-counter painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen can be taken to reduce discomfort, and a trusty carton of cranberry juice can often relieve the symptoms of an attack. You should also abstain from sex until the infection has cleared up. We’re only talking a few days, so the nun’s habit and one-way ticket to the monastery isn’t necessary.

I'm 19 and without fail get cystitis every time after sex. It's a joke and stops me from doing anything else other than sitting on the toilet for hours. Normally I get antibiotics from the clinics but when they run out I don't know what I'll do. I'm worried that if I get a continual prescription (which seems like a good option) my body will get used to them and they won't work. Cranberry juice is not something I like the taste of, but there are these cranberry capsules that are concentrated and they help maintain a healthy urinary tract, which is my main issue. Hope this helps anyone the links I've looked at are: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cystitis/Pages/Treatment.aspx http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cystitis/Pages/Prevention.aspx http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/seven-seas-cranberry-forte-capsules-200mg_1_5382.html

This used to happen to me and an older friend advised no matter how tired you are (want to sleep!) get up and go for a wee-this tends to flush anything out. Also never use coloured toilet tissue paper. It may just be a coincidence but i have never had cystitis again-decades later. worth a try.

I have always been a sufferer of cystitis since i became sexually active at 18, only the symptoms would come 4 days later. I tried cranberry juice but this had no effect and i got sick of waiting for appointments to see my dr to get my antibiotics. So when he told me to try to urinate after sexual intercourse i thought i would give it a go and to my surprise it has worked. I did get the infection again about a year ago but i had forgotten to urinate, so told my partner to remind me, not very romantic i know but better than a weeks worth of pain.

I'm 18 and first got 'cystitis' after the first few months of my relationship back then. I was prescribed antibiotics which cleared it up but not fully, and about a month later I noticed symptoms again. I left it for several months but it got worse, so I went to the doctor and was prescribed a different antibiotic which didn't work. It will not go away, and I can only describe my symptoms as a tingly/tickly feeling just after I've finished urinating; there is no burning sensation. I used to feel the tickly feeling several minutes after urinating, especially when I would cough or 'push' as if I were passing wind, but I don't seem to get that anymore. I also get a yellow and sort-of slimy discharge, and sometimes pain in my pelvis during sexual intercourse. I don't have any STDs as I was tested for that but my doctor still suggests I get swabs taken, so I have booked an appointment. I just don't know what this is and I've been suffering with this for over 6 months; I dread going to the toilet because very little urine comes out most of the time and it's a horrible tickly feeling. I just want to feel normal again.

Sounds like you may have it. Go to your gp though as its your first time and you mention blood - its nothing to worry about but just to check and get antibiotics to clear it up. When you feel the need to go then do so, it hurts but you shouldn't hold it in. You'll clear up in a few days.

Hi, I have been unable to urinate for the past 2 days due to it being to painful. It's a burning sensation and I noticed there was blood in my urine as well. Is it worth going to the doctors or should I see if it clears up by its self. Help

Hi I'm 18 years old and keep getting cystitis, so often that I'd be in and out the doctors every week if I went every time I get it. I have noticed that it seems to become more frequent when using condoms and a friend suggested a latex allergy, could this be true? I'm sick and tired of running up and down to the loo all day and sometimes I feel like if I keep saying it at work they'll just think I'm skiving. Help please!

I'm exactly the same! Only i get these infections every time i have intercourse.. my doctor suggested that i could be alatex allergy too and to be honest, even though i still get ill, it's not as violent as it used to be? Although the non-latex condoms are VERY expensive, it's really worth a try. I hope it clears yours up for good xx

I'm 15 have pain ONLY SOMETIMES when urinating and for a bit afterwards, and after peeing sometimes feel like I still need to go, and sometimes when it's quite painfull there's also blood in my urine. Any help would be great, please comment cause I'm really worried if it's something serious ????
