Conditions

Cystocele

Discomfort in the lower stomach

A cystocele is a fallen bladder, which occurs when the wall between a woman’s bladder and her vagina is torn by childbirth, resulting in the bladder bulging or dropping towards the vagina. Cases range from mild to severe and treatment usually depends on the severity of the condition. A mild cystocele, which may be noticed by a physician or nurse, but hasn’t bothered the patient, doesn’t necessarily require treatment. However, in cases of moderate and severe prolapse, symptoms can be bothersome and can lead to women experiencing difficulties emptying their bladder, as well as feeling of pressure in the pelvis and vagina, especially when bearing down. This can lead to repeated bladder infections, urinary incontinence and pain during sex. Prevention is often better than cure, and the chances of a prolapse occurring can be reduced by doing regular pelvic floor exercises, treating and preventing constipation, avoiding too much weight gain, and ensuring that the man in your life does all the heavy lifting!

Hi me again, I have been treated really well by docs in my hospital, but I am in 2 minds about whether to have my cystocele operated on!!!!! I am doing pelvic floor exercises every day religiously!!!! To the lady who has a bulge when weeing please go to your doctor as this sounds like a large cystocele. I can only feel mine if I pick up something heavy or I recently jumped off something that was quite high. I know it is my choice but I hate being in this undecided frame of mine! Sarah

Hello to the kid, Please don't worry because I have to pee a lot as well and I am sure this is normal. Drinking tea makes you wee more because it contains caffeine so acts as a stimulant to the bladder (it may also be true of coke, but I am not 100% sure of this). Stick to always pads …. they are so small nowadays that they don't really notice to anyone. You could always pop along to a birth control clinic so you don't have to visit your doctor. You are prob small because yuou are so young. I hope I have helped! It is very very very unlikely that you have a cystocele ….. usually pregnancy or being menopausal is the reason. best wishes to you.

hi im a 28yr old mother to three gorgeous boys aged 8,6,and 7months.just to let you know to start with i have never had the chance to give birth naturally this is why its confusing the docs.i have c-sections because i suffer heamorages, dvt's and gestaional diabetes when pregnant i knonw its a nice long list of horribleness. anyhow after having my third son i found it hard to urinate it stang and felt like i had to push quite a bit but that eventually got better.after 4 weeks when i felt ready to be sexually active it just couldnt happen my walls had closed in which was very dry and very tight and almost like it had dropped.my husband could not even push in an inch it was excruciating for me.so went to the docs he couldnt even examine me because the spectrum couldnt go in so i ended up seeing a gyno who just told me it was through me breastfeeding. and that was it i dont feel i have been helped at all and we are still struggleing as i cannot make love to my husband. im now weaning my son in the hope it might get better can you shed any light on the matter or just help me. i have tried pelvic floor excercises which hasnt helped me so i dont know what to do :(

hi,
im 36 nd have just come out of hospital after having an anterior repair for a cystocele, not having been home 12 hrs yet, i have just discovered that i have put myself and my family through all this trauma as my operation has been unsuccesful to remove my prolapse,i am absolutley devastated as i have waited 8 years for me to be taken seriously and for someone to actually do something about it, i am only now hoping my consultant can try yet again to sort it out and make me normal again so i can once again feel like a woman and not some freak. good luck to anyone who is having surgery in the future and a speedy recovery.

Hi, I was diagonised with a cystocele just after having my first baby. It was suggested it was caused because I had a prolonged 2nd stage labour, an episiotomy (cut) and a forcep delivery. At first the buldge from my bladder was very visable in my vagina, it was heavy and uncomfortable and I had an awful dragging feeling most of the time.I felt very depressed. Sex was painful too. However I worked on my pelvic floor muscles most days and when I stopped breastfeeding after one year things improved. At certain times of the month I still feel the dragging slightly but my advice to all is learn about and do those pelvic floor exercises, you'd be surprised how much you can improve things down below.

Hi im 42 and since giving birth to my now 17 year old son i cannot urinate without straining.I am so embarressed because i cannot go in public because it takes so long to get it all out,and people wander why i'm in the bathroom so long !!! If i don't empty myself properly i get infections.I do have the urge to pee but only when my bladder is extremly full and gives me the tummy ache.I can wait all day before going to the toilet. Please can any one help because i feel so abnormal, and my doctor wont help me saying my bladder is just damaged from such a big baby.
