Dermatitis

This is not a condition in itself, but rather a catch all term used to describe a number of conditions that cause inflammation of the skin. Conditions which dermatitis can cover include eczema, psoriasis and allergic reactions, as well as a number of very rare skin complaints. It is normally an initial diagnosis that is subsequently clarified after a visit to a dermatologist.

If your child is suffering from eczema, psoriasis or an allergic reaction, then read our condition guides especially for parents on the Embarrassing Bodies: Kids website.

Hi, I have been suffering with what my Doctor diagnosed as dermatitis on the palms of my hands. She has prescribed numerous creams, most of which are steriod based. I have been using these creams for over a year now but nothing is working and the condition is worsening. I always protect my hands with gloves when working. I will upload some pics if someone could tell me how me how to do it. The pain is getting really bad now, my skin is getting large cracks and the condition is spreading to my wrists. Please help me as I am very concerned about the fragile skin on my wrists suffering in the same way as my palms. Thank you Sharon.

mine is the same its driving me mad it gets worse when im hot

Does anyone have any ideas as to what skin condition I might have? I have what appears to be bites mostly on my legs, chest, stomach but have had all over at one time or another. I first thought scabies or bed bugs due to intense itching but my family has not been affected and this has now been going on for a year this month. I'm 39 and I've never experienced anything like this before. I've been to my GP,urgent care and my d ermatoligest I've been given prednison that works but as soon as I'm off it comes back. I've used creams, sulpher soaps esential oil neem. I've also gotten desperate and used vinigar alcohol and even diluted bleach. All help but for a very short time. The Derm even did a biopsy on one of the spots once but found nothing could this be some kind of parasite? That is what I'm thinking but have no idea what since I'm not contagious. Any help would be great. Thank you.

I have recently noticed some itching and pain around my vaginal lips when they are parted and on having a look it seems there is a split in the skin which is sore and seaping. The skin around is also a little inflamed and itchy. I'm 19 and although I'm sexually active my boyfriend and I have always used condoms. I haven't noticed any wierd discharge or odours either. Can anyone suggest anything?

I've been in the hairdressing industry for 4 years now and have never suffered from any problems with my hands until about 4 months ago, I now know I am allergic to colour, so I now don't go near it, or use it on myself, I use bleach which I'm fine with, however I think I've got dermatitis, although, I always wear gloves when I'm cleaning or in contact with water or chemicals, I've tried all different gloves (latex, non-latex, vynal, powedered, non-powdered, polothene) incase it was them, I'm now using un-fragrenced products, like shower gels and moisturisers incase it was that. I've been to the doctors a few times now and they have given me 4 different creams to use, they seem to work for a bit, then my body seems to get used to it, and its gets bad again, so bad my skin cracks and bleeds when I bend my fingers, its really effecting my daily life, I find it hard to even hold a knife and fork, or tie a shoe lace! I need help majorly, please reply to me!

I find that using some deodorants that I am left with a reaction in the skin in the armpits. This has also been the reaction to use of afterhave which leads me to suspect a conflict to alcohol based products. The armpits become tender with an area of spots which are irritating and nake wearing certain clothes impossible.
