Dermatitis

This is not a condition in itself, but rather a catch all term used to describe a number of conditions that cause inflammation of the skin. Conditions which dermatitis can cover include eczema, psoriasis and allergic reactions, as well as a number of very rare skin complaints. It is normally an initial diagnosis that is subsequently clarified after a visit to a dermatologist.

Hi I am a 71 year old female and for quite a while now I have been getting very intense irritation around the vulval area. It is so bad at times that I scratch until I bleed, often in my sleep. There is no dicolouration, or obvious signs of thrush

Hi, I have severe chafing between my legs which has developed as I have put on weight. During the last week I have had days where it is unbearable and I can barely walk. I have been using femfresh powder and talcum powder, which alleviate the pain once I am home and can put on my pjs (loose, cotton). Does anyone know of any creams or anything that I can use throughout the day to help?? is it because my legs rub together now or is it something else?

I have exactly the same problem - my hands get very dry, and I feel embarrassed too when they start to bleed. It's also very painful! One thing that I've found helpful (although I must admit it sounds a bit strange) is this - when you go to bed at night, apply lots of E45 cream to your hands (really cover them, especially the sore areas). Then put your hands in sandwich bags, and leave them on all night. This not only stops the cream from going all over your bed linen, but also allows the cream to work at softening and soothing your sore hands overnight. The first night I tried this it much improved the condition of my hands. I suppose you could use large plastic gloves instead of the sandwich bags if you have some. Generally, I have found E45 to be the best cream on the market - I have tried loads of brands (Vaseline, Norwegian Hand Formula, Sudocrem etc), but one other cream that looks and smells similar to E45 is called Aqueous Cream. Its only available at Boots, but its not too expensive.

I get really dry skin on my hands, mainly on the sides of my thumbs and index fingers (the right side of my left index and the left side of my right, the exposed sides if you like). It cracks and bleeds some days and is hardly noticeable others. I haven't been to my GP because it isn't affecting my daily life, I was just wondering if anyone can relate to it and recommend a lotion or cream that softens the skin so it doesn't crack as much. I've tried 'vasaline' and cream for cracked heels. Thanks

When travelling in humid countries I develop a red rash around my anus and vagina and between my buttocks. It itches and stings like mad. I have tried using sudocrem, baby powder, and various ointments prescribed by my GP which do get rid of it once I am home. I don't want to give up travelling in the tropics and wonder if there is anything I can do to prevent it occurring in the first place. I have tried wearing all cotton clothes but they stay damp but 'wicking'fabrics seem not to help either.

Hi. I have been suffering from a skin condition called coin dermatitis for 10 years. It is all over my body. My legs, back and arms are worst affected. I could deal with in the areas that can't been seen but I am now getting it on my face. My doctor has perscribed cortozone based creams like dermavate and betnovate. They used to releive it but I don't think they are working any more. Can you give me any help please?
