Conditions

Enlarged Prostate

An enlarged prostate (known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) is one of three main conditions that can affect the prostate. Similar to prostate cancer, prostate enlargement usually only affects men over the age of 50, and about half men over this age will have some sort of prostate enlargement. It’s caused by an overgrowth of prostate cells and symptoms include: difficulty passing urine because of weak and slow flow; passing urine frequently (more than 10 times a day); frequently waking up in the night to urinate (nocturia); and incomplete emptying of the bladder. Treatment for an enlarged prostate depends on whether your symptoms are causing you problems, or if there are complications. For mild symptoms, it’s possible to make certain lifestyle changes, such as: avoiding alcoholic or caffeine-based drinks; avoiding drinking late at night; and increasing the amount of fruit and fibre you eat to avoid constipation, which can put pressure on your bladder. Other treatment options can include medication or a prostatectomy (a surgical procedure to remove part of, or the whole, prostate).

I am 75yrs old and over the last 2yrs my foreskin has become very tight, and I am unable to pull it back like I used to.If I do attempt to, like when getting bathed, it cracks and splits and becomes very sore, and takes about a week to heal. I am diebetic type 2, does this condition effect it in any way,? what should I do about it.

I have been suffering with pain in my perenium for over 3 years. It is aggravated by any type of pressure on the area and has now made sitting impossible. It causes horrible pain in my abdomen and feels like being kicked in the testicles. It has caused huge problems with my relationship with my wife due to the pain sexual activity causes. I have had ultrasound, mri, barium enema, accupuncture, blood tests and all come back with no problem. The only thing that was found was puss in my urethra when I went to see if I had an STI which also showed negative. I was prescribed anti biotics for the suspected infection causing the puss but no improvement has ever been made. Ive been passed from pillar to post and all I keep getting told is theres nothing wrong with you. It makes passing urine more urgent and ejaculation no longer feels as it used to. Has anyone any ideas???

I`m 67 year old man and after experiencing difficulty in passing urine, what actualy happened it was very slow. I had my p.s.a levels checked and a internal test by my GP. my p.s.a twice in 2 years was OK or normal but my prostrate was enlarged but smooth to the touch by my GP. My GP prescibed some Tamsulosin 400 microgram (Prosurin XL 400) slow release capsules which has improved my urination making it easyer and the flow is much better. But now my concern is that now when I ejaculate there is no fluid at all from my penise.this as been like rhis for several months now. Does that indicate that my prostrate condition has got worse. or is it just old age? BY the way my older suffers from prostrate cancer which my GP is aware. What do you think is going on with my condition?

I'm 23 and for the past 3 months I've regularly noticed blood in my urine when I use the toilet the first time after having sexual intercourse. Not every time, but still often. I've notices that this is particularly if my girlfriend has performed oral sex. I cannot see anything unusual on my penis, nor am I experiencing any pain whatsoever. I have been with my girlfriend alone for over a year neither of us have ever had an STI, nor have we ever had any problems since we started having sex. Often during oral sex she will stimulate my prostate(or G Spot), could this be the problem. Or could it be from just 'going at it' too hard? I did see blood in my urine once before, 3 years ago. It was after intercourse, and a once off. It has only started happening regularly recently.

I'm 21 and for about 18 months things haven't been right with me...it started off with what i can only describe as the feeling of an air bubble in my urethra....which seems to be worse if I've had any kind of sexual activity....now after sexual activity my penis stays hard for longer than before and feels quite uncomfortable....also if i push on my abdomen it sends pain/pressure through the whole bottom part of my body....and I'm also now experiencing some pain in my anus...it;s really hard to explain what i mean exactly.... I've also noticed i have trouble urinating properly and go alot more than i used to.....i am really concerned about this but i'm so embarrassed at the idea of going to a doctor about it and i've let it go on and on.....it's unbearable some days and especially evenings...i've not told anyone about it but i'm finding it hard to pretend i'm ok when it's getting me down so much and making me feel so uncomfortable....does anyone know anyway i could try to prevent any of these symptoms....many thanks
