Conditions

Haemorrhoids

Piles

“The grapes of wrath” is both a classic John Steinbeck novel and a name for haemorrhoids, which can be an uncomfortable and often painful condition. Otherwise known as piles, this is when blood vessels in and around the anus become swollen and inflamed, which is both an inconvenient and embarrassing location on the body to be affected. It is, however, a very common condition. Around 50% of people experience the condition at some time in their life, with pregnant women and the elderly most susceptible. Treatment will depend on the severity of the piles, but the symptoms may often disappear on their own after a few days.

Maybe worth a trip to the doctor? They may be geting worse, hence the leakage? It may be time to have them treated by banding? But in any case, sounds like a trip to the doc may help you.

I have almost constant burning pain in my back passage - no lumps, bumps or bleeding - just constant burning. I now find that this pain completely dominates my life. I had piles years ago and had these banded. Following the banding 12 years ago, things got much worse (I now understand that this may have been placed too high?) and I became very aware of my diet. I eat a very high fibre diet (bran cereal, 5 pieces of fruit, potatoes, raw carrots, oatmeal bread, vegetarian main meal, gallons of water) and go to the loo usually 3 times a day. I now seldom eat anything that I enjoy but still have this burning sensation. I regularly suffer from IBS. Creams, suppositories do not work. I was a very keen and regular hillwalker (210 Scottish Munros before giving into this problem!) and love my garden. I can now no longer go hillwalking and need to be very careful what I do in the garden. I have stopped going on holiday because our holidays were always active and this problem caused us to cancel the last one. I took early retirement in June this year and was looking forward to hopefully getting things settled and back into some exercise. This hasn't worked and I am now absolutely demented with this problem. To make matters worse, I do not confide in my wife and she is constantly on at me to get out and take more exercise, etc., making me feel like a lazy so-and so. I am not sure that I am looking for any solutions here, maybe just a bit of a rant to get it out of my system?
