Conditions

Haemorrhoids

Piles

“The grapes of wrath” is both a classic John Steinbeck novel and a name for haemorrhoids, which can be an uncomfortable and often painful condition. Otherwise known as piles, this is when blood vessels in and around the anus become swollen and inflamed, which is both an inconvenient and embarrassing location on the body to be affected. It is, however, a very common condition. Around 50% of people experience the condition at some time in their life, with pregnant women and the elderly most susceptible. Treatment will depend on the severity of the piles, but the symptoms may often disappear on their own after a few days.

Having read a few comments above, it comforts me to realise that my symptoms are as commons as the rest of yours? I have had an itchy bottom for 4 years on and off and anusol takes away the itchyness really effectively. The itchyness does spread towards the vagina and is sometimes unbearable that I carry anusol in my handbag for the instant relief. It also keeps me awake at night until I apply the cream. I was wondering if it would ever go? It started after my first child who is nearly 8 years old? but has got worse in the last 3 years?

Help, I was treated for plies over a year ago with creams and suppositries. It did not cleear up the problem and I was eventually refered to a surgeon who did a flexible sigmoidascope to check there was no other problems. Luckily there was not but unfortunatly I still have the same problem with itching, soreness, bleeding and pain when passing stools. Im told I dont have very big haemarrhoids and the surgeon has washed his hands of me. The only thing that helps is steroid ointment but he also told me I shouldnt be using it too much. I have no other options please help.
