Halitosis

Bacteria from bad breath

There’s no shame in having halitosis (or bad breath, as it is more commonly known). In fact, 95% of us suffer from bad breath at some time in our lives, and one in four adults suffers from bad breath on a regular basis. A quick way to test the potency of your breath is to lick the inside of your wrist with the back of your tongue, let it dry for a few seconds, and then smell. If you subsequently find yourself recoiling in horror from a foul stench, then you should perhaps consider visiting your dental hygienist. Bad breath usually stems from poor oral hygiene (including neglecting the tongue area, which hosts the bacteria that cause bad breath). However, smoking and drinking too much alcohol can also contribute. Sprays, mints and chewing gum will only temporarily mask your bad breath, whereas improving your oral hygiene will ultimately pay-off.

If you’re suffering from any of the conditions featured on this site and want to apply for an onscreen consultation with one of the EB team then you can find more details here >>

I WAS CURED WITH ANTIBIOTICS.
I had been suffering of halitosis for 5 years and now it is over.
An antibiotic cure called "metronidazole" in combination with "amoxicillin with clavulan acid" changed my life.
I took it for 8 days and it worked. contact your doctor and show him/her this mail.
My reason for the halitosis:I had a too high level of natural bacteria and they were causing virulence.
Try this one. It helped me and maybe it will help you.
DONT GO TO YOUR DENTIST WITH PERMENANTLY HALITOSIS. Dentist will recomand expensive treatments for you. They will lose money if halitosis and perodental problems is cured best with antibiotics.
English is not the spoken language in norway so i hope i make myself understandable

i have suffered with bad breath for a very long time and am always trying to find ways around it but its really getting me down and am fed up with it now. i cant do the things in life that i want to do because this is holding me back. im going to try and find a periodontist in my area like sarah has suggested but any help would be much appreciated thankyou.

I went through the same things that many of you are going through now. But it wasn’t until I went to a Periodontist that I got some real help. A periodontist gives you a more extensive cleaning than a regular dentist. As a kid I didn’t floss and brush before bed, so for 8 hours I slept with small food particles between my teeth that built up and eventually created pockets beneath my gums that I was unaware of. Our mouths are 98 degrees inside, so it’s kind of like leaving food and meat on the counter for 8 hours on a hot 98 degrees summer day. It will eventually start to rot and smell. This is what happens in our mouths when we don’t remove the food particles between our teeth. It starts to rot and build up on our teeth, creating large pockets beneath our gums that we’re unaware of. So no matter how much you floss and brush, you could never get to the food particles and bacteria that have built up in your gums. The bad breath comes from the old build up and bacteria that you can’t get to. That’s what the periodontist is for. They clean out those deep pockets, and in time those pockets shrink so that food and bacteria doesn’t build up in your gums. They also may give you antibiotics if the bacteria levels in your mouth is too high. We have good bacteria and bad bacteria in our mouths. The good bacteria should be around 80% and the bad bacteria around 20%. Bad breath can occur when the bad bacteria outweighs the good bacteria. So the periodontist may give you antibiotics or an antibiotic mouth rinse for this after your cleaning. If you’re given antibiotics, it does remove both the bad and good bacteria, so make sure you replenish the good bacteria with foods like yogurt, and kefir. You can find a complete list of foods to eat on this website here: www.ific.org/foodinsight/2003/ma/friendlybugsfi203.cfm .

So find a good periodontist (some periodontists need a referral from your regular dentist). And floss and brush regularly, especially before bed. When you sleep, this is the longest time you will have with a clean mouth. So make sure it’s completely clean for those 8 hours. I know flossing is a pain, but one thing I do to make it easier for me to floss before bed is to keep the floss in the living room on the table next to me where I watch television. So at night when I’m watching television, and I’m all done eating for the day, I’ll pick up the floss and start flossing (since I’m just sitting there bored anyway). That way when I go to bed, all I have to do is brush. Then in the morning I brush once more to knock out that infamous morning breath and I’m good to go. You’ll be amazed at the difference in your breath throughout the day. With the periodontist‘s help of removing old build up beneath your gums, and your daily maintenance of flossing and brushing, you’ll be back to normal in no time. Here’s a link to the toothpaste and mouthwash that I use. www.therabreath.com/truth_bad_breath_new.htm . I found these products to work a little better than regular toothpaste. But you may find that regular toothpaste works just as well after your periodontal visits. Please note that I am in no way affiliated with any of these products. And I am not a professional dental hygienist either. I’ve just suffered for a long time with this problem and now I’m finally free. So I just wanted to share this information with others who are suffering with this same problem. Sometimes I felt like I was all alone. But I don’t want anyone else to feel that way. There is help out there for you. Good luck to everyone!

I floss, brush twice daily and scrap my tongue til its sore, i have a slight white film on my tongue. im fed up and i dont socialize.

S.O.S thanks

I have had bad breath all my life and has affected my confidence since I can remember. In a tight office environment, to with ladies, or with friends, I feel as if it holds me back. I have tried many mouthwashes and chewing gums and nothing has offered a permanent and "thorough" solution. Please, please can someone advise what the options are, as it is leading me to depression and ruining my social life. I am probably the cleanest person I know in general, and I hate people thinking I just don't brush my teeth or something.
