Human Seminal Plasma Hypersensitivity

Sperm

If you’re a woman diagnosed with Human Seminal Plasma Hypersensitivity, you might find yourself screaming to the Gods: “Why couldn’t I just have a peanut allergy?!” This is because HSPH is an overly complicated way of saying that you’re allergic to sex – or, to be more precise, semen. Allergic reactions may begin to occur within five to thirty minutes after intercourse, and could include genital itching, burning, and swelling. However, there is some good news. Firstly, it’s a rare condition. In fact, there have only been 100 confirmed cases. And secondly, desensitisation therapy (including administering allergy shots containing small doses of the male partner’s semen) requires the afflicted woman and her partner to have sex at least two or three times a week. ‘Every cloud…’ and all that.

Hi i'm 25 and when having sex it really hurts when the penius enters and then becomes unbareable, after sex my vagina is swollen and very sore, sometimes it feels a bit itchy a few days later and also burns when i have a wee straight after, i have been to the doctors and been tested for clamidiya, water infections and i am always clear i have told them about my problem and they have a look up there everytime and say they cant see anything!! or they fob me off by saying its thrush when it clearly isnt the problem as sex is so painful! its getting me down now and i am scared to have sex! Also my second problem is i had my second baby 14 months ago both delivered by c section and ever since then from my first bowl movement i have had pain low down and in my bum.The pain in my bum has got loads better but only seems to worsen on my period when i need the toilet? Also just recently i have a stinging pain on my scar line on my right and abit below and gets worst when i pick my son up and i think that might be due to carrying him on my hip and over done it?I've been to the geanacolagist and they have just done the same as the doctor although they did do an internal scan, that shows i still have alot of fluid behind my c section? But the hospital has discharged me and said everything is normal and im just stressed but i feel it isnt normal and the pain is getting me down and all everyone is saying is i'm still healing when i think its more?thanks

I'm 19 years old and never had an issue with semen until I was 18, at which point sex just became agony, swelling, redness and severe burning. I was told all of the usual things such as too try, overly large penis, etc etc. I tried all the solutions they offered and nothing worked. One day my partner accidentally got semen on my back and I came out in a big rash where it touched my skin. I realised what bit was and went to my doctor. When I told her she actually laughed as though just humouring me, then told me it was very unlikely. I finally got her convinced, and all she could say bwas that me and my partner were just not compatible. We have since broken up and I have slept with someone else. I still have these symptoms and i am so depressed. It's agony but I love him and cant have sex. Help please?

Hi, I did not realise other women had this problem. I have been married for 37 yrs and whilst making love; I have always experienced a burning sensation.I did wonder if I was allergic to my husbands sperm. Over ten yrs ago I had a total hysterectomy and I may have gone through the menopause, as my vagina is very dry, I just thought 'this is what happens'. Can I be helped, as I hate not being able to enjoy the sexual side of my marriage?

Hi, My partner and I had been sexually active for about a year and a half before the symptoms outlined above started to happen, also with previous partners there was never any problem... AT first I just went along with it trying not to complain, but then it started to worsen and even having sex became painful. I went to see my local GP, who tested me for any STI's or nasty's and I was fine... then I was reffered to a consultant who advised a Laparoscopy.. convinced I had Endometreosis... again I was fine. Since then I have not been back as I seem to have no answer and couldn't stand putting myself through so many people seeing my bits again. Its feels like I have been pushed to a fro with my knickers down for no reason. Its now just over two years since the Laparoscopy, and my partner and I barely have a sex life. Could it be possible it is HSPH??? Please help. x

Hi, I'm 30 years old and I have begin to notice that my vagina swells, feels warm like it has the flu or something ater intercourse with my fiance. This happens every time we have sex. It happens either right after sex or hours after sex, sometimes even a day or two afterwards. I notice when I insert a get called metronidazole vaginal gel immediately after sex,I don't experience any symptoms. But the symptoms still come back when i least expect it.
