Conditions

Hydrocele

A Hydrocele is caused by fluid accumulating in a sac around the testicle. Around 1 in 10 male babies are born with the condition, which normally disappears without treatment during their first year. They can occasionally develop in older men, often as result of inflammation or an injury to the scrotum. They are not normally painful, and frequently do not require treatment. The main reason for concern is that the symptoms are similar to the swellings that can occur as a result of testicular cancer. As such, a swift visit to the doctor is advisable to rule out anything more serious. If treatment is found to be necessary, then it is frequently carried out by a small surgical procedure to remove the fluid filled sac, or sometimes through drainage of the excess fluid and injection of a thickening agent into the sac.

hi my balls swell from time to time and only on the right side. i'm 99.9% sure its not the testicle itself but rather the tube (not sure of the name) attached to it. i know its fluid because in its weakest state i can squeeze it and feel the fluid rush back up into my body. sometime if i role on my back then after a few seconds the swelling goes along with any pain with it. in its worst state its so hard its literally like a 3rd testicle and you cant squeeze it at all and its very painful. ive been to the doctors twice but the problem is both times ive gone i havnt had any swelling so theres not much they can do. i just describe it to them. ive had it for a year. when it first came it was constant. literally every time i walked around i got it. for the last 6/7 months its been far less consistent but in the last 2 weeks its more prominent again. what is it and more importantly is it cancerous?

I have literally the exact same problem! Same side, same symptoms. I just don't have any pain, except when I squeeze it quite hard. I have found nothing about this anywhere else and have not been to my doctor about it. It doesn't seem like cancer but I'm not a doctor. Just thought I would share this.

Hi I'm 35 just had bylatrel hydrocele repair I'm now in more pain and uncomfortable than everbefore with terable scar and have been told that 3% can go like this and there is no cure for this. Has anybody ever experienced this?

I have a little lump on the left hand side of my scrotom, inside on the skin, roughly 3-4 mm , I'm 19 and worried this could be serious? It doesn't hurt, even when I feel it, what do you recommend? Thanks

I have recently had surgery to correct a hydrocele that I had since birth. It has now been 2weeks since I had it done and slowly returning to normal. I would advise anyone to go and get it checked out if you think you have one. I put mine off for years, and I'm so glad that it's finally been done. It's a massive weight off my mind!

My 6 year old son has a hydrocele, I took him to the doctor last year who told me they wont do anything unless it gets bigger. Over these last couple of months I have noticed it getting bigger, I am going to take him back this week, but just really concerned about what they might do. Is there anyone whose child has had a hydrocele operation who can reassure me?

When my boyfriend was young he had an undescended testicle and had an operation to cure this. Since then his scar on his testicle has inflamed, it looks a little bit like a skin tag but is about 2cm in length and 2cm from the testicle. He won't go to the doctor's about this, but we're both worried it could be something other than an inflamed scar. Could this lead to health problems? or could this be something severe? Will this problem affect fertility?
