Conditions

Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating in the armpit

Sweating is necessary to control your body temperature in warm or hot weather, or when exercising. In fact, on average, we lose over a litre of sweat a day and have an average of 2.6 million sweat glands in our skin to aid that process. However, around 1% of the population sweats excessively at times when they are neither hot nor exercising, which commonly affects the armpits, face, palms and soles of the feet. Known as hyperhidrosis, sufferers of this condition wish that they could just turn the tap off. It might not be as easy as that, but there are treatments available, one of which is a course of Botulinum toxin injections into the affected area. The fact that you’ve been botoxed probably won’t make the pages of Heat magazine, but it should block the nerves that supply the eccrine (sweat) glands, subsequently preventing them from producing sweat.

We’re making a new series of Embarrassing Bodies and we’re looking for teenagers (13-19) who want to take part.

If your body is going through unusual changes and doesn’t feel like it belongs to you anymore, we want to hear from you.

There's a really good product for smelly feet - really stinky feet - it is called 'trust for feet' a long life deodorant works a dream, well it does for me and I used to rot my shoes!! Just put the name through a search engine - it is only about £4 for a small pot (so order a couple because they are small). I think a company called Dovedale sell it - use it between the toes once a day for the first week or so and then reduce it down to about once a week/wash off and reapply as needed - brilliant!

I have noticed that in my right armpit during the day it feels tacky and sometimes it can show onto the clothing. I have only had this condition for 2 days and this is something that I have not experienced before. I shower everyday and always use deodorant. What could be happening? This has only appeared under in one armpit only.

I am a 29 year old female and I have suffered from Hyperhidrosis since my late teens. I sweat the most from my head/scalp, my face, armpits and groin. It has to be one of the most embarrassing things as it just cannot be hid. I have benn to my GP once about it and as it happend to be in the summer time he turned me away saying it was just due to the hot weather. Therefore I have never been back. It stops me from going on nigts out with friends and to hot places/holidays. I dread the summer time when it is at its worst. Can anybody reccomend anything for use on the head/scalp????

My partner constantly sweats although mostly when he gets cold. He showers every day and as soon as he gets out of the shower the sweating starts. This goes on for most of the day and then around the evening time it stops. It is driving me crazy as he changes his t-shirts around three times a day. Is there anything that can be done?

For the past 5 years I suffer from severe sleep hyperhidrosis (night sweat). I'm 31 yo. I wake up in the middle of the night soaked from head to toes. My duvet, my mattress and my pillows are deeply wet. If I get up at night, I can not use my bed anymore as it is completely wet and cold. It is really distressing. I've seen many GPs, but they just told me to open my window before going to bed. I had a scan to detect tb and a bloodtest for my tyroid, and the results were negative. Hope someone can help me! Thx.

My husband has hyperhidrosis on his feet and now under his armpits. The biggest problem is his armpits, he tends not to sweat much but does have a very red itchy rash. He has seen his doctor 4 times for creams, but they do not seem to be making much difference. Can anyone give any help! Are there any natural products that you can use.

I use a roll on treatment called Driclor which I got from a chemist. You just roll in on at night before you go to bed & in the morning the sweating is reduced. It worked well for me & I felt confident enough to wear long sleeved tops again. It's brilliant & the results are instant.
