Keloid Scars

Keloid Scars

Keloid scars are those that grow larger and lumpier than the initial wound they were healing. When a wound occurs the body produces collagen to repair it. It is an excess of collagen that can contribute to keloid scars, as it overgrows and accumulates over the wound. They are normally shiny and hairless, and frequently raised above the surrounding skin. Treatment for keloid scars can involve steroid injections or application of steroid tape to the affected areas. More extreme options include laser treatment to reduce the redness and even surgery to remove the scar, though it can grow back larger than before.

I have a keloid scar on my tragus piercing. I have had the piercing for a year now and have constantly cleaned it with various different products such as, salt water, sergical sirit, tea tree oil, saline drops and have also crushed an asprine to form a paste, but it does not seem to want to go. Its bright red and very noticable and crusts over. I want to know is the scar perminent or will it go? or should i just take the piercing out? if so will the lump go?

I have keloids on my back, upper arms, and chest. I am almost 20 years old, and I refuse to wear low-cut shirts or dresses. I'm seeing a dermatologist about once a month to see what I can do with them. He alternates injecting them with a steroid and freezing them with liquid nitrogen. The injections help make the keloids more supple, but the liquid nitrogen makes them lighter in color. If possible, putting some layers of makeup over them lessens their appearance. Even though keloids look bad, don't let them get you down. I have shown them to my friends, and they support and encourage me to accept myself the way I am.

Hi I have a scar which runs about 4 inches below my belly button to 4 inches above my belly button. the scar below my belly button has healed without any problems, yet above has become a keloid. The scar to either side where the staples held it together is also raised like a Keloid. I had a tattoo done on my collar bones area a couple of years ago and part of this has also raised like a keloid. Does this mean that any scaring i have now will always turn into a Keloid? i never had this problem till i had an RTA and lost my spleen. Just wondered if anyone else has the same problem as me

I have had a keloid scar in the middle of my cest for about 20 years - I am now 28. Being a woman it is very difficult to get clothes that are above the scar to hide it and also to stop the clothes from irritating the scar. Over the years I have tried scar oil, silicone sheets, steroid injections, burns vest, rubber moulds and even snail slime cream! The injections and silicone sheets have probably helped the most but it still grows from time to time when its irritated.

I have keloids on my back, chest and upper arms (that developed from pimples) for almost six years now. I've been to the dermatogist and had a series of steroid injects. The keloids got softer and seemed to shrink but now, even the ones that got softer are getting firm again and there are new ones developing and they itch terribly. It's really depressing as I can't go swimming, can't wear stripless cloths or undress infront of anybody and too embrassed to have a boyfriend. Please, help.
