Conditions

Knee Damage

Knee damage

The knee is an extremely complicated joint, with several structures that can be injured, including the collateral ligaments, the cruciate ligaments and the meniscus. The most common knee injuries involve a sprain, a strain or a tear. Ligament damage is the most common injury seen to the knee, and ligaments are what connect one bone to another within the joint. The most common symptom of a knee injury is pain, swelling and instability, often accompanied by snapping or popping at the time of injury. It is often caused by sporting accidents, but conditions such as osteoarthritis can also be a contributory factor. Whilst initial treatment consists of ice to control the swelling, treatment can vary from rest and physiotherapy through to surgery to repair the damage.

Hi. Im 19, for a couple of months ive had a clicking, grinding knee when i bend it. When the knee is left in one persishion for a long period of time, it begins to ache. Also, on the left side of the knee, when i press on to it, it feels as if its bruised. I havent recently banged my knee, and i dont know what it is. Could you please help me as I cant cope with the clicking and grinding much longer!

I recently ran into the same problem. Every morning I sort of had to "pop" my knee back into place. and it often felt like it was grinding. I tore my lateral miniscus and had to have knee surgery. I would consider going to a doctor or orthopedic surgeon!

I am 13 and I went to school this morning while it was slippery and icy I slipped of this sharp wood and scraped my shin and now my knee is killing I can't walk on it an I don't know what to do I cant do anything and I have a dance show tomorrow its very important I want to know what's damaged an how do I fix it quickly

I am 31 years old and have had problems with my knees for over 2 years. My knees kept giving way due to a sporting injury. I had my knees examined by a doctor and they referred me to have an MRI scan. The scan showed clear with no damages. I was then referred to a physiotherapist; the physiotherapist examined my knees and said I might have a torn ligament...gave me a few exercises do. But my knees are unbearable, I cannot walk properly, I cannot walk up and down the stairs...So much pain in my knees is really unbearable. Please could you give advice on what I can do? I cannot stand the pain in my knees anymore.

dont worrie im 13 year old girl and my knees and hips keep clicking and somtimes they feel like they are going to fall out of the sockets it is realy painfull and its really annoying because it has held me back from my football and boxing :( xx

I'm 47. I suffered for years with dislocations to my knees. Eventually they took both my kneecaps out. My R knee is fine, but I'm having lots of problems with my L knee. It is SO painful all the time, but more so everytime I walk. I'm in agony. It's now impacting so bad on me I can hardly do anything. It crunches and clicks all the time too. Can anything else be done for me? Knee replacement?
