Conditions

Lymphogranuloma Venereum

Testing for LGV (Photo courtesy of CDC)

This might sound like the scientific name of a recently discovered species of deep sea jellyfish, but LGV is actually a sexually transmitted infection that, until a few years ago, was very rare in the UK and the rest of Western Europe. However, that situation changed in 2003 and 2004 when there were a series of outbreaks among gay men. LGV is almost exclusively transmitted sexually. The bacteria can be transmitted when infected mucosal surfaces (in men, the warm moist skin of the mouth, penis and rectum) come into contact with an uninfected person’s mucosal surfaces, during unprotected anal and oral sex, and fisting. LGV is actually a strain of Chlamydia. However, whereas a regular Chlamydia infection can be treated with a one-off dose of antibiotics for one week; LGV requires a 3 week course. If you want to avoid symptoms such as festering sores and ruptured, pus-filled glands, in and around the anus and groin, wear a condom!

Hiya !
i am 19 years old and ever since i can remember, i have been getting large puss – filled lumps on my inner thighs. I thought it was because i was over weight and because my thighs were rubbing together when i walked (haha) but, now i have lost weight, they seem to have got worse. It is so embarrasing, especially at bedtime with the boyfriend!! They have completely scared my legs and left them horrible to look at, they are sore, irritating and the bigger ones bruise! its not fun! My GP says its foliculitus (or however you spell it) BUT anti biotics DO NOT do the trick!! I have even visited the GUM clinic and they cant do anything! No one seems to be able to tell me what it is and its becoming gutting!! HELP !!

Inside my vagina I have a big lump thing that drops lower when on my period. I saw my gp about it years ago so I know it's nothing to worry about. But now there is a little lump around the small hole that has been there a long time and has spread alittle. should I be worried??? I have been tested for STIs about a year ago and I am clear. I dont like my doctor he is scarey and a man. please help.
