Conditions

Lymphogranuloma Venereum

Testing for LGV (Photo courtesy of CDC)

This might sound like the scientific name of a recently discovered species of deep sea jellyfish, but LGV is actually a sexually transmitted infection that, until a few years ago, was very rare in the UK and the rest of Western Europe. However, that situation changed in 2003 and 2004 when there were a series of outbreaks among gay men. LGV is almost exclusively transmitted sexually. The bacteria can be transmitted when infected mucosal surfaces (in men, the warm moist skin of the mouth, penis and rectum) come into contact with an uninfected person’s mucosal surfaces, during unprotected anal and oral sex, and fisting. LGV is actually a strain of Chlamydia. However, whereas a regular Chlamydia infection can be treated with a one-off dose of antibiotics for one week; LGV requires a 3 week course. If you want to avoid symptoms such as festering sores and ruptured, pus-filled glands, in and around the anus and groin, wear a condom!

After giving birth to my son 3 yrs ago, I started to get lumps on my vigina, anus & under my arm pit. I can feel when one is forming as the area gets very itchy. I have been to the dr and all I was told is that they're abcesses and to take a cause of antibiotics. Which do shift them tempererally but not gotten rid of them all together. I always presumed it was a hormonal imbalance after giving birth. They're always very sore and some days I can barely walk as I am in so much pain. I have recently been told by a dermatoligist, and he told me that I have over active male hormones. I don't believe this either. All I know is that they're sore, irritating, and making my sex life go down hill. I clean & wash the areas everyday, but that doesn't seem to help either. Germoline seems to do the trick most of the time, but when I get them on my anus, I'm very dubious about applying it as they tend to sit, right on my passage. I'm no closer to finding out what they are, or how they're bin caused.

I get small lumps under the skin near my vagina...mostly in the crease where my thigh meets my groin. Sometimes these lumps are small and sometimes they get as big as a malteser. They are always very sore and after about a week they burst, normally with puss first of all and then blood after a few minutes. After this they heal quickly but sometimes scar and I'll get another one around a week later. I know they are not an STI as I have been getting them since the age of 10! I'm now 29 and enough is enough...no Gp has even bothered to look when I've asked for help. My last Gp told me to bath daily in Dettol! surely there has got to be something to end these? Or even to know why I get them would be nice! can anyone help?

Hi, about a year ago I discovered some lumps on my vagina, the doc said it was warts and prescribed me cream. Some days later I got severe blisters and the doc then said it was herpes. I was then medicated for that. The itchy/dryness and irritation has yet to go away. I am constantly visting the doctor with this problem. They told me it was BV after this and I was then medicated for that. I visited the sti clinic for a full screening. I was lucky that there happened to be a skin doc there also, she prescribed me a soap for the irritation in the vaginal area. It helped. Recently, over the past 3-4 months I have been getting raised lumps. My GP said it was warts again, and has frozen off several (all at different times, 2 week span almost, and I never get more than 1) ... Twice I have noticed a lump and due to a busy schedule I could not make it to the doctor asap and so I checked a day or two later and they were gone. Just the other day I noticed one in the hole area. My doctor froze it again. The irritation is becoming unbearable. I feel like no body knows exactly what my problem is. It is ruining my sex life to be frank, and my confidence more so. Please help :(

Im the same but i cant pop it :(

when i was pregnant i had several blood filled lumps on my vagina, kind of like blood blisters, which also bled for ages!!turns out they was varacus veins. theyve faided since having my baby but asked my mid wife and she said they shouldnt be a worry. hope this has helped xx

I've been getting small lumps like this for the last 20 years of my life, since I was 10 years old...no GP has been able to give me a straight answer or any advice on how to stop them. I manage them as best I can but no matter what I do they come back. I was once told I could have an operation to remove the glands but it wouldn't be a permanent fix as they would eventually return. wish I could help you, if you find any solid answers then please help me to!

I have had a lump on my labia for a few months. At first I thought it was an ingrown hair, but it definitely isn't that. There is nothing in it and it isn't painful..I tried popping it and picking at it but nothing comes out. No matter what I try, it will not go away. It feels almost like a callous. How can I get rid of this thing??
