Lymphogranuloma Venereum
This might sound like the scientific name of a recently discovered species of deep sea jellyfish, but LGV is actually a sexually transmitted infection that, until a few years ago, was very rare in the UK and the rest of Western Europe. However, that situation changed in 2003 and 2004 when there were a series of outbreaks among gay men. LGV is almost exclusively transmitted sexually. The bacteria can be transmitted when infected mucosal surfaces (in men, the warm moist skin of the mouth, penis and rectum) come into contact with an uninfected person’s mucosal surfaces, during unprotected anal and oral sex, and fisting. LGV is actually a strain of Chlamydia. However, whereas a regular Chlamydia infection can be treated with a one-off dose of antibiotics for one week; LGV requires a 3 week course. If you want to avoid symptoms such as festering sores and ruptured, pus-filled glands, in and around the anus and groin, wear a condom!

I am in my thirties and have been suffering from an anal fungus for years, and am too embarrassed to see a doctor. I did visit a doctor once, who told me it was Tinia. He prescribed some Canistan cream, which initially helped.. I had a red ring mark around my anus, which is not as obvious now. I was in hospital having minor surgery last month, and was not eating much...I noticed that I had lots of anal fungus..more so than normal? Every morning when I wake up, I find that this fungus or form of candida is present. Around my scrotum are signs of the odd fungus.I am a gay man and wondered whether I have an std? Maybe it is Tinea and I need anitbiotics? I have not had a std check up for a few years now. I also suffer from Nail psoriosis which also affects various parts of my body. could this be contributing to my sypmtoms? Whats your verdict? Please help? I want to be sexually active and find it embarrassing.
Hi i am 16 A couple of years ago i noticed some spots under the skin of my penis. I brought up the courage to tell my gp and he told me that they were just swollen glands and would eventually disapear. I have never had sex before and there are also spots around the head of my penis as well. They have not gone away and i am getting a bit concerned. Please help
i have brownpatches around my groin area and it is starting to spread whatis it ?
I have never had swabs for chlamydia. However I have had cervical cancer, which was discovered by a loop excision of the cervix , also then a cone biopsie was done that removed the small tumour, then later a small pintuck diagnostic biopsie was done to make sure everything was all clear, which it now is. Would any of the above biopsies have detected this infection or do I need separate swabs. I see a Gyn every 6 months and have been told my cervix looks healthy but I am always to shy to ask for swabs to be done.
