Conditions
Ovarian Cysts
An ovarian cyst is a growth or swelling on, or inside, the ovary (the female reproductive system that releases an egg every month), which can either be solid or filled with fluid. If solid, the cyst may be called a “tumour”, which, with all its cancerous connotations, can be particularly terrifying. However, you’ll be relieved to know that it’s just the medical term for any swelling and the vast majority of ovarian growths are benign and not cancerous. There are several types of ovarian cyst, but the most common is a functional ovarian cyst, of which there are two types: a follicular cyst and Corpus luteum cysts. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition that causes women to develop lots of small, benign cysts on their ovaries, which develop due to a hormonal imbalance. Symptoms can include pain and discomfort low down in the abdomen, which can come and go, and may be more noticeable after sex and changes to periods.

Hi Louise. I was told that i had pcos about 11 years ago having tried for a baby for about 2 years without any success. I was told that i would only have a small chance of conceiving. As like you we were devasted. We were told that there were different things that we could try. I finally caught on my 2nd attempt of IUI treatment the next stage would have been IVF. My daughter is now 6 and not long after i caught naturally on my son who is now 5, so did give up just because you have pcos, i'm nearly 40 now so age is on your side
When I was 13 years old I was experiencing pain all over my stomach where my stomach grow the size of a pregnant women. I was admitted to hospital where a scan and blood test were take. Unfortunately it was bad news I had a cyst that weighted 1330g on the left ovary. This left ovary was removed because it was so bad. After my operation I felt so much better until the aged of 19 where I was experiencing the same pain again. So I went to the doctors where they sent me to the hospital for scans and blood test. They found another cyst on the right ovary but it was not as big but very painful. So after that was removed I was hoping that everything was going to be ok. But unfortunately a 6 months check up and scan found a luteal cyst on the right right but was not removed due to not being a large size. I am 21 years old in may 2012 and I am still being checked for cyst on my ovary.
Hi i'm 18 and i was told i had an ovarie cyst and then went back for another scan a month later and they said it had popped but it's been a few weeks since it popped and i'm in a lot of pain still to the point where i can't even walk or sit down sometimes and i have no energy and always tired if anyone knows what could be wrong get back to me.
Hi I'm 21 and I was diagnosed with pcos last year when my hair started to fall out quiye severlyand I hadn't had a period for 5 months. I'm 5"7 and I'm 10 and a half stone so I am not over weight. I've just been to the dentist and i have been told that my PCOS is effecting my gums as I have excessive bleeding when I brush. I am very upset by all of this as my hair is still thinning quite a lot. What can I do to stop these problems as I am having nightmares of ending up with no hair or teeth!! I am already on the pill Dianet.
Ive had irregular periods since i can remember, my cycle is between 34 and 40 odd days and my period would last from 7 - 11 days. Last time i was on my period is on 29.10.2011 and i still havent come on . I know im not pregnant because ive done couple of tests and they all came back negative. I went for some scans referred by my GP and the results were that i have Polycystic ovary syndrome , i continued to do tests but because it took so long to get the results i decided to go to a gynecologist and he said to me that there is no sign on cysts on my ovaries. So now i dont know what to believe any more. I also tend to get thrush very often, i have it atm and ive used canestine to treat it but because it keeps coming back every couple of months i know its not good for my body. Me and my boyfriend have also been trying for a baby for the past year and a half and nothing seems to be happening, we have sexual intercourse every couple of days simply because i cant work out my ovulation days because of my irregular periods but still, no result :( I need to know why are my periods so irregular, why do i keep getting thrush and how comes i am not pregnant yet. Is it all linked to each other
Hi, I'm 15 and the past few months my periods have been more irregular and I've been having bad stomach pains when I'm on and off my period. My hair is also thinning and I've heard this can be a sign sometimes. My cousin has pcos and I'm slightly worried I might have it too, so any help would be really appreciated, thanks :)
its about my wife, she has been having serious lower back pain which is so severe that she has to miss work every time. the pain always comes on when she gets her period, the pain gets so bad that she cannot move, her hands locks up.we have been to ER and seen our GP but with no success. they just keep saying that its period pain.the only way to describe the pain is like going for a poo but nothing is coming out. Please help I dont know who to turn to. Concerned Husband
I am almost 26 been diagnosed with pcos when I was 17 although I suffered with pain since I was 15ish. A year ago I had key hole surgery- ovarian drilling. I have been trying for a baby for the last 3yeaes but still no luck. I am constantly back and forth to the Womens centre but all I get told is your to over weight good bye! I have extrem hair growth under my chin, my fore arms, side burns, belly etc. I did have Electrolisis once but simply couldn't continue due to money. The hospital have said they won't help with both issues, so I have to decide between hair or baby. I was taking tablets before but had to stop once i started trying for a baby. Why won't they help with both? And why are they so blunt when it comes to being over weight? I'm starting to suffer with depression and finding myself staying home when I'm not working because I'm worried people will see my hairy chin...... I'm constantly plucking, waxing, bleaching. I can spend £20-£30 a month on hair bleach! Help Plz?!
