Perimenopause
Ever fancied an omelette for dinner and realised you’ve run out of eggs? All you do is pop down to the local shop and buy some more. However, for women going through perimenopause, the egg supply is not as easily stocked up. It is an inevitable ‘rite of passage’ leading up the menopause (when egg ovulation stops) and affects all women differently. Common symptoms include changes in your periods and the amount of blood you lose, as well as hot flushes, night sweats, as well as vaginal and urinary complaints. Treatments are available if symptoms start to take over your life, with 10% of women seeking medical advice. The remainder rely on self-help methods, including stress management and regular exercise.

i am a 44yr old insulin dependant diabetic.i had a hysterectomy leaving my ovaries when i was 30yrs old.since then i have horrendous hot flushes which affect my life dramatically..if i wear light coloured top have to wear black cardi as water jus runs down my back.i spend most days wipeing my face and back and carry flannels and toiletries round with me…this has really affected my confidence and several loads of blood tests have come back negative please help?
I have just turned the big 50 but have been having perimenopausal symptoms for a while. I now exercise a lot, walking and cycling, and I find this helps with my emotional symptoms. I've also managed to lose a bit of weight by eating healthily and a bit less but not following a "diet". I do get very emotional, and sometimes have no confidence at all, and get very stressed in situations. The hot flushes have subsided (I've been taking Kalms). The worst problems are the emotional ones and that my boobs have sagged terribly in the last few months! I get periods now and again, but mostly just a brownish and sometimes green discharge. I'm glad I read this page, I don't feel so abnormal now.
I am 52 and have not had a period for approx 2 to 3 yrs , I am a bit concerned as i have just started bleeding, what could this be.
It is so reasuring to read these comments. I am 46 and my parents died 4 years ago and I had a long period of mourning, I thought I was going mad! However, I now believe that I am experiencing perimenopause with many days dominated by the 'blues', poor sleep, intermittant periods, one heavy, then one light, stress incontinance when sneezing, appalling night sweats, reduced ability to make decisions sometimes, reduced memory recall of names etc, a change to my skin, and worst of all a suspected prolapse, which I found frightening and embaressing. I went to my GP immediately who suspected a slipage of the bladder and referred me to a gynaecologist who found no evidence, reassured me and suggested I talk to my GP about the menopause.I wish women would talk more freely about the menopause, I am extremely ignorant, but now more confident, psycologically, I am much more calm.
is there a test a doctor does to see if your perimenopause like a blood test.At 44 i had heavy periods then very light one month, brownish the next, stopped the next 2 but i still get period pain as if it was coming
I have been suffering with painful sex, anxiety and dizzy spells, i think im pre menopausal. I visited a specialist for advice and had an ultra sound on my ovaries then told I have an empty pregnancy sac and my husband had a vestomony 12 yrs ago, I have had no explanation for this and no treatment just told to ignore it. im concerned and want to know how, why and what has anyone got any ideas.
I'm 44 years of age, just before my period I have this brownish discharge for half a day then the blood comes, does this mean that my eggs are rotten?
im 45 my doctor says im premenopausel i have hot flushes and sweets my face and neck go red my periods are every two weeks im taking primrose oil b vitamin6 and angus catus i have no sex drive and my vagina is dry
I am 55 and have been having premenopausal symptoms for 5yrs now,I have had real difficulty having internals, mainly because I had a small tear on the outer lybia, and I became very nervious about been touched, I was even sent to a gynicologist because I could not be examined, they could find nothing wrong with me. Then I started to get a discharge that did not smell but was green in color, and I needed to wear pads 24/7. This lead to more soreness. Then I was so sore that I couldent even go to the loo without stinging, and found it difficult to even wipe my self. Sex was imposible and I was feeling as if I was reaching the end of my tether. Next I started to get ulcers, and still I did not feel that I had healed from the tear, and that was about 3ys ago. My Dr could find no way of helping me. Eventually I went to the Sexual Health clinic and with just one course of antibiotics and a strong cream I started to feel better for the first time in years.
I have suffered with hot flushes all that time aswell, to me it starts with just an uncomfortable feeling, then it spreads outwards from my chest to my toes,I sweat profusley around my neck and chest area, and eventually it subsides, they happen a lot at night, but any time through the day, and also come on if I just start to feel uncomfortable with a situation, maybe being too close to my husband or being asked a question that I can answer immediatly.
I never realized that the menopause could take over your life so completely.
Now after a good 3yrs I have been able to have penatrive sex again, perhaps soon I will be able to enjoy it again, who knows. Not my Dr's thats for sure.
