Prostatitis

Prostatitis is caused by the inflammation of the prostate, often caused by a bacterial infection. It can be caused by an infection that spreads from the bladder or can be an associated symptom of an STI, such as Chlamydia. It shares similar symptoms to a bladder infection, such as difficulty in passing urine, but if an STI is present then there can be additional symptoms, such as discharge. The infection can develop into a chronic condition, in which case it can reoccur at frequent intervals. There is no single cure for chronic prostatitis – if antibiotics don’t clear up the infection then self-help measures such as hot baths, avoidance of strenuous activity and regular ejaculation are normally prescribed, the latter helping to drain the prostate and clear infected matter.

Hi im a 23 years old man and I had unprotected anal sex with my girlfriend for the first and last time in Jan 2010. Ever since that day i have had a constant burning pain at the tip of my penis, through the urethra and pain on my testicles occassionally. I have been to my GP who intially tested me for all STDs and bacteria which came back negative. I was given doxycline and then ciprofloxacin for about 3 weeks with no improvement. I was then referred to a urologist in april 2010 who did a cystoscopy and said i had a sensitive bladder lining that may have been caused by a chronic infection. I've also tried more natural remedies like raw garlic clove and garlic tablets. Cranberry juice and sachets with no improvement. This constant pain is destroying my quality of life and is so depressing because im always in pain and there is no solution to my problem. Please someone tell me they have had anal sex and had a similar pain and actually managed to get rid of the problem.

I have been seeing my doctor since 2006 with a severe lower abdominal (pelvic) pain. I have been treated for IBS during this time and have occasionaly seen an improvement, but I am increasingly of the belief that the improvement was just coincidental. For the last two months the pain has become very severe, waking me from my sleep, preventing me getting to sleep and if I am stood for any length of time (waiting at the shops for my wife) the pain is so severe that I have to sit down and can not move until it has passed. It usually takes only 5 to 10 mins to reduce the pain so that I can get to my car and get home. For the last week, the pain in my abdomen has been accompanied by a burning sensation in my penis, particularly in the evening. After urinating the pain resmbles the need to pee again, but there is no pressure on my bladder. My doctor said he no longer thinks it is IBS and is considering a hidden hernia, so is arranging for an ultrasound scan. It has been one week since my visit and I have not yet been given an appointment. The pain, although subsiding at times, is very bad and I do not want to wait much longer before the cause is identified. I have no other symptoms. I saw the EB episode on Prostatitis and have wondered if this could be the poblem. Thank you for you consideration

My boyfriend has been suffering from severe pain in his lower abdomen for quite a few months now. It is so bad that he can't move sometimes. He also has swelling in his penis and pain when ejaculating on occasion. He also complains about a pain in his right testicle. He is only 18 and every urine test and STI test has come back negative. Recently he also suffers the pain in his lower abdomen after drinking alcohol. I would just like to know if these sympotoms are common of prostitis. If anyone could give me any feedback I'd be grateful. Thanks

I am 22 and have been suffering with chronic prostatitis for about 18 months now. All urine tests, examinations have been negative. Been on different antibiotics which have actually helped. The problem flares up every now and then and is quite painful. The main symptoms are: - slight redness at tip of urethra - pain in perineum after ejaculation (not every time) - pain in testicles - premature ejaculation I also have a lump on my left testicle which has been there a number of years. I had an ultrasound many years ago which showed it was nothing to worry about, however I do wonder whether it is related? I last saw a urologist in October when he said that it would last a while but should disappear, and he didn't give me any treatment or anything. Next appointment is in 3 weeks. What are the urologists likely to suggest next? This is really getting me down. Thank you.

Yes, I had this some years ago - it would last for 3-6 months then go away. It re-occurred about 3 times. Had a uro visit plus cystoscopy (opt for the flexible one!) plus prostate massage - no infection was found. It IS worrying for a bloke, esp as it progresses into your balls & tubes but it does go away. Recommend frequent ejaculation, hot baths and any "healthy prostate" pills plus gentle prostate massage.

hi i am 18 year old and this week i have been having pain in my balls and also in my bladder some time when i go to the toilet it can be abite painful.

I had this 20 years ago, if you eat two cloves of garlic raw or with tomatoes the symptoms should disappear for a week and i repeated that for 3 weeks i went to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics and the symptoms returned so then i used more garlic and i have not had this problem again and i just have an enlarged prostate . Hope this helps and let me know if it works for you good luck.
