Snoring

The effects of snoring

Many people will have experienced sleeping with a snorer. In fact, some may even have been driven to the point of hovering menacingly over their partner’s face with a pillow, fully intending to suffocate them with gleeful abandon. However, 41.5% of the UK population snores, which amounts to 15 million snorers – 10.4 million males and 4.5 million females – so we shouldn’t turn these adenoidally challenged folk into pariahs. The sound of snoring is made when you breathe through your mouth and nose when you’re asleep. But when that air doesn’t move smoothly through your air passages, it makes tissue in your mouth, nose and throat vibrate as the air passes through. Some causes of snoring are related to lifestyle, (being overweight, smoking, drinking alcohol etc), so there are changes you can make to minimise the snoring. But if the self-help methods don’t work, then there’s only one thing for it…no, not the pillow…visit your GP.

My wife has been very good with dealing with my snoring but is beginning to struggle with it. It is starting to put pressure on are relationship and getting to breaking point. I have tried a number of different devices off the internet but nothing is helping.Nasel sprays, strips reducing and different pillows, vapour rub on chest and neck, chin strap, I have lost weight but I could still do with losing another 1lb. but still seems to be getting louder and more of a problem. Sometimes I feel like I am beginning to snore when I am awake watching TV or at work. What can I do PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Hi Glad to hear that I am not the only mum that sleeps with one eye and ear open all night. My son is also age 3 with the same symptoms which he has had since birth he also had alot of ear infections within his first year and we had to have a full hearing test done last november just to check on his hearing and with regards to the snoring. His hearing turned out to be fine but we have been told that he might need to have his adinoids out as they could be enlarged but they have told us they would not consider doing this for some time due to his age.Just wondered if you had any of advice with your son having already had them removed.
