Snoring
Many people will have experienced sleeping with a snorer. In fact, some may even have been driven to the point of hovering menacingly over their partner’s face with a pillow, fully intending to suffocate them with gleeful abandon. However, 41.5% of the UK population snores, which amounts to 15 million snorers – 10.4 million males and 4.5 million females – so we shouldn’t turn these adenoidally challenged folk into pariahs. The sound of snoring is made when you breathe through your mouth and nose when you’re asleep. But when that air doesn’t move smoothly through your air passages, it makes tissue in your mouth, nose and throat vibrate as the air passes through. Some causes of snoring are related to lifestyle, (being overweight, smoking, drinking alcohol etc), so there are changes you can make to minimise the snoring. But if the self-help methods don’t work, then there’s only one thing for it…no, not the pillow…visit your GP.

hi, Im a 25 yr old male and snore very heavily. I fell over when i was 15 and damaged my nose which is now partially blocked all the time and i also have permanently scarred (swollen) tonsils which i also think may be causing bad breath can any one help me with this as i don't fancy surgery - Thanks very much
hello my son is 3 and since he was born he snores and stops breathing then gasps for breth when he is asleep (sleep apnia), i have slept with one eye open just incase he doesnt start breathing, its very scary but is now being given an operation to remove his tonsils and adinoids so hopefully my boy will breath easy and mum can sleep a full night with both eyes closed :-) hope this helps anyone with a problem like this i say see your gp.
Hi Glad to hear that I am not the only mum that sleeps with one eye and ear open all night. My son is also age 3 with the same symptoms which he has had since birth he also had alot of ear infections within his first year and we had to have a full hearing test done last november just to check on his hearing and with regards to the snoring. His hearing turned out to be fine but we have been told that he might need to have his adinoids out as they could be enlarged but they have told us they would not consider doing this for some time due to his age.Just wondered if you had any of advice with your son having already had them removed.
Re the episode on snoring on 12th March, I'm surprised that the doctor didn't recommend one of the classic treatments for sleep apnea, the sleep mask, which is hooked up to a machine which restores lost oxygen to the snorer. That mask has given a friend of mine a new lease on life. Not only does he now sleep soundly all night, but also he no longer has those dangerous long periods without breathing. Admittedly, not everyone takes to the sleep mask, but when other method haven't worked, it's worth knowing about.
my son is only 12 years old hes snoring is that wright at his age
