Surfer's Ear
Surfers fancy themselves as pretty cool individuals, frequently to be seen with tousled blonde hair and wetsuits strategically unzipped to the waist. Fortunately, nature has a sense of humour, so many of them will have Surfer’s Ear. It is caused when the ear becomes partially blocked with bony tissue, and it’s most commonly caused by exposure to cold water. The lining of the ear can be irritated by the cold water, causing over production of the bony substance under the lining of the ear canal. Loss of hearing is the key symptom, as is pain caused by the build up of earwax. This affects the drainage of the ear, allowing infections to develop. Ear plugs are the best way to prevent it forming, but if it’s already too late then a procedure called an exostectomy is performed to remove the boney debris, whilst antibiotics are utilised to clear any remaining infection.

One year ago I got the cold then the flu straight after, ever since i have had a terrible low sounding vibration in both ears. It gets worse, then better but is always there. It is a very loud noise and not only do i hear it at night but also through the day. The doctors and hospital have been no help to me at all and say that i am hearing the blood going from my brain down to my heart. I also get bad headaches and can't sleep, its very upsetting now and i struggle to cope with it.}I feel like they think i am crazy.
I have this too, what seems to help is a hot bath, it must help the circulation somehow. Don't let yourself become over-stimulated by anything emotional or too much sound. See if this helps. Also get plenty of sleep, get a doctor to prescribe sleeping pills, so that you can get that sorted first. Can you try codeine for the headaches. Best wishes Nina

Hii im Allis, 2 years ago i had a cold which left me with a blocked right ear, I went to my GP and he gave me Nasal Spray for my nose to see if it could clear the air way in my nose. It contantly went blocked everytime i caught a cold, when my cold had gone it left me with a clicking sound in my earring and painful ears. My GP referred me to the hospital, they tested me with a sound too see if i had a earring problem but they told me i didnt have any problems with my earring. So they tested me again by putting a camera up my nose and told me i had some tissue i had to remove from my earline and in my nose, they recommended me to have a minor operation, which i attended too. Had the operation and i still had the same pains and feelings in my right ear, Doctor gave me another earspray which didnt help me at all. Please i need your help!!:)

Hi, I was diagnosed with a form of vertigo which i was told should clear within 6 months but i have had it for nearly a year now. I get a feeling of pressure in my left ear and it feels like it is blocked, this affects my hearing and also makes me feel sick, dizzy and when walking makes me feel exhausted. It use to occur all the time but know i get attacks at any time. Beacuse i cant hear myself properly it also affects my speech. I have hurd about pollets which can grow within the ear could this be causing my problem? n I have suffered with them elsewhere.
I can feel some pressure in my ear which sometimes makes me deaf. It feels like fluid as it shifts when I lay down on the affected side and my hearing then becomes clearer. I have had this deafness for six months now and had amoxicilin tablets and eardrops and nasal spray but the pressure still bothers me.
