Teeth Grinding
Teeth grinding (otherwise known as bruxism) is caused by the pressing, clenching or physical grinding of teeth against each other, often at night. It is normal for people to grind their teeth a little when their teeth are growing, as it is the body’s way of developing a perfect bite. However, tooth grinding can also be brought on by stress and psychological problems, but luckily there are a number of effective treatments. These can include muscle relaxants to loosen the muscles in the jaw, as well as corrections to the bite achieved by crowns or onlays. A splint can also be created to prevent damage to the teeth and to eliminate headaches and pain associated with the condition.

Hi I saw on this weeks programme about grinding teeth which I have been doing for a few years ( dont know why) Ive been to my dentist and he gave me a mouth guard which did not help as I am grinding that too, getting back to your programme with the guy that you sent to the dentist and had his teeth capped and his back teeth capped with gold and also lifted the height of his back teeth correcting his bit and helping him not to grind his teeth now when I told this to my dentist he said its not possible if you grind your teeth then you will grind the caps off so whats the point, is he correct we are talking nhs here but if I went private there would be no problem which is not fair is the procedure available on the NHS please help as I am so much pain, also if I could find a dentist to do this work at what cost thanks
I have been grinding my teeth for i don't know how long, i have been to my dentist and he has given me a mouthguared that goes on my bottem teeth. I mostly grind my teeth at night and sometimes in the daytime when stressed, in can be very painful. It can be so painful sometimes that i hurts for me to eat, in some situations i have to suck my food.
What can i do?
I have been to my dentist now on 5 occasions and pleaded with him to help me as I now cannot smile due to my poor teeth. I have had an infection which has caused my teeth to protrude forwards. He keeps brushing me off! Also when I told him about my grinding he also brushed that off too! Pls help me and tell me what I can do? It took me 4 years to find this dentist and I really don't want to wait that long to find another NHS dentist. I told him I saw your prog on a woman's teeth who had 4 titanium screws fitted into her bones and now she has perfect teeth, but all he said to that was I would have to pay £2,000 for each inplant. Is that true? I want to be able to smile again, I have really large gaps now in my front teeth which look so ugly, I even cry about it as when I was younger I had perfect teeth. Do you think he keeps fobbing me off because of my age which is 55 yrs. I do know for a fact he treats the younger patients with a lot more respect than he does me.
I have had a mould made by my dentist which goes on your bottom teeth. It is very light and does the job great !! But in the day time I also grind them – dentist said it is like biting your nails – can be because of being nervous. Wow – thats me !!
Hi im 21, My problems started last summer 08. I have been getting my wisdom teeth through but when the one on the left came through my jaw clicks, locks and grinds. This has resulted in my two front teeth being different sizes as the left has shaven due to discomfort. I have also damaged the senond teeth & gaps are now appearing.
Is there anything I can get done on the NHS as this now causes problems with confidence?
THANK YOU
Hi I am 39 years old I don't grind my teeth I clench them. My jaw clunked whenever I opened my mouth it started about 10 years ago. I went to my doctor about about 3 years ago which resulted in a compacted wisdom tooth removed my jaw no longer clunks but its like one side of my jaw is now locked. I have had terrible jaw pain and headaches that have got worse over the last year. I clench my teeth without even realising, it can be any time day or night. What can I do???
