Conditions

Thrush

A microscopic image of the fungus candidia albicans, that can cause thrush

There is definitely nothing to sing about with this condition, which affects 80% of women at least once in their lifetime. Not least because of its recurring tendency. However, men don’t get away lightly either, as they are also susceptible to the condition, but less commonly. This is because everyone has small amounts of Candida albicans, the yeast that causes thrush, present in their body. For women the symptoms may include irritation and, more noticeably, a cottage cheese discharge coming from their vagina. Likewise, men may experience inflammation and a similarly unpleasant discharge coming from their penis. Thrush can often go away without treatment, but there are many over-the-counter remedies on hand to help. However, in first time cases or if you’re suffering from a persistent yeast infection, it may be worth consulting your GP for advice.

Over the past few days i have had pains in and around my vagina its painful to walk and close my legs sometimes.I tried having sex last night but we had to stop because it hurt too much.Afterwards i found i had a little blood in my discharge and had more discharge than normal. Is there anyway i can sort this out by myself at home? i'm too embarrassed to tell my mum or go to the doctor..

I've had thrush twice, most recently being this past week - I took medication for it 2 days ago however now I am having irritation in my bum! - there is a straight red line from my bum crack down to my anus, and my anus feels slightly sore. I'm constipated and have been for a while. What is happening! Has the thrush spread to my bum or am I experiencing ANOTHER condition?

I had sex in shower with the water running for the first time and was uncomfortable. Some time afterwards I had sex again but this time in bed and my vagina was very dry and i felt a burning sensation that was very painful. Then I noticed a fishy smell and i don't produce as much natural lubricant as i did before. Can anyone please tell me what is wrong, as this never happened before(i always produced a lot of natural lubricant) and I do think it was because of the water when i had sex in shower?

I have started having bumps around my vagina at first I thought it may be a reaction to me shaving but it seems to have got a little sore and I have a burning/stinging pain when having a pee. I spoke to my mum and she said it is most proberly thrush but I really am not sure.

Hi, I am 20. A year ago I ended a two year relationship in which I had recurrent thrush every time i slept with him (never unprotected) and after I finished the relationship I did not have any thrush symptoms all year. However recently my vagina has been incredibly itchy. It is nothing like it was when i had recurrent thrush in 2010 and if I don't touch it it is fine but the minute I touch downstairs even to wipe from the toilet it immediately is really really itchy and smells a bit like urine?? Any ideas??
