Episode 5 - Nottingham

Anal leakage

Brian dropped in to see Dr Christian with a rather pungent problem. Brian had been experiencing leaking from his anus for a number of years but Dr Christian can’t seem to find any obvious cause. He asks Brian to switch to a high fibre diet and to ensure that he wipes himself properly to see if this makes any difference.

Try this, it pretty much solved the issue for me after several years and various hospital investigations: Try this diet, only eat these foods and no others. Introduce other foods one by one to see if they make a difference. You can eat: Any fish steamed, microwaved or grilled. No breadcrumbs or batter. Fresh chicken must be quality meat though. Rice. White again lo fibre. Any fruit and vegetables. (no onions) Steamed or boiled. Peel everything. White bread. (Lo fibre) Sardines Bitter chocolate at least 70% cocoa (that's you treat). Bovril on toast. See how you go. I discovered I can't have anything with cow's milk, red meat, junk food or snacks like biscuits.

I had a screening colonoscopy in '07 and have had this problem ever since. I had another colonoscopy last year to see if there was an internal cause and everything was fine. Additional fiber foods don't seem to help. Probiotics help with constipation, but this is too much. If anyone has an answer or suggestion, PLEASE let me know. At this point, I'll try anything.

I don't know why it happens, but I have had IBS for a number of years. Recently started a veggie, fruit and white meat only diet/cleanse and it seems to have stopped quite suddenly.

I have the same problem. I do believe it is diet related. When I have a BM and wipe, there is red bloody on the paper. I have a pile just next to my an us which has been there for over a year. When I eat healthy it seems to reduce in size and the discharge goes. But as soon as I eat something heavy it comes back. I find when I get wet I make a 'manpon' for myself rolled up toilet paper left between my cheeks but I work now I am noticing a smell which I am sure others can smell. Starting to consume my life.

I had my gall bladder removed two years ago (age 55)and was constipated for nearly a year afterwards. I took pro-biotics this year which solved the constipation problem but now I seem to have a little seepage. I generally just stick a few folded sheets of toilet paper up there to get through the day. Its mostly just annoying. I also bought a bidet this year and thought that was causing the problem but I guess not.

Had same problem starting at age 45. Me: male, atheltic, basicly healthy. solution: either 1/ be vegan...(eating meat triggers leakage) 2/ be carnivor but take betaine HCl with each meal that contains high protein (meat, fish)....coffee seems to make it worse but when on vegan diet can be taken liberally or moderately when eating meat IF taking betaine as well. I think taking apple cider vinegar might also work with digesting protein but I haven't tried it. Good luck....the condition sucks for sure.
