Episode 2 - Leicester
Gender Reassignment
Jenny-Anne comes to see Dr Christian with a condition that has affected her whole life. Jenny Anne was born a man, but has since had gender re-assignment surgery to transform her into the woman she has already wanted to be. Dr Christian refers her to a breast surgeon and a facial surgeon who will feminise her face, and complete her transformation. Following extensive female hormone supplements, Jenny Anne does have some breast tissue, but the surgery will augment this tissue and provide some balance. Following this operation, Jenny-Anne has extensive facial surgery, to remove excess bone and to feminise her face overall.

This couldnt have come at a better time as I am going through the initial stages of GD. I am a 31 year old biological male. I have left for many years that I am different and put it down to "phases" but I now realise as I am getting older the feelings are getting deeper and I now know that I should have been born with a girls body. I have contacted my GP and she couldnt of been more understanding and is doing some research for me and I have an appointment on Thursday this week. I am hoping that my GP can refer me to a clinic to be properly diagnosed and I can move onto the next step in my transition. Thank you Emb Bodies for covering this in your programme and I wish Jenny-Ann all the very best...what an inspiration.

Breast surgery and facial reconstruction is usually not covered by the NHS, but gender reassignment surgery itself is, as it's considered a life saving surgery. Problems with teeth can be rectified for free during childhood and adolescence, but afterwards it is counted as a self-caused problem and a non-essential treatment.
