Episode 4 - Wakestock

Living With...Intersex

Del is one of the 2000 people who are born with both male and female characteristics each year. Del was not diagnosed as being intersex at birth and lived happily as a female until male characteristics began to show as he reached puberty. Being intersex is when someone is born with mixed sexual characteristics caused by genetic and hormonal irregularities. Traditionally, a sex is chosen for the baby and medical treatment is used to remove the other gender related characteristics, but recent thinking suggests that babies should actually be allowed to grow up with both characteristics so that they an choose for themselves.

Why make a choice at all? One cannot change feelings! Coincidentally; traditional concepts match that of animal breeders, all females and selected males for breeding, the rest for the pot! Physical and mental characteristics vary between extremes, variety is why humanity still exists! Be happy with what you got and make the most of it! Uniforms are for occasional wearing not to be poured into!
