Embarrassing Fat Bodies Episode 2
BMI Test
The mobile clinic is in Derby where the average BMI is the highest in the country, and Tanya wants Dr Dawn to take a look at her overhanging tummy. Having 4 children has left her with an overhang which sometimes causes a rash. Dr Dawn advises that Tanya should get down to her target weight, and if that doesn’t improve things, surgery would be the best option.

This is a good answer
BMI tests are considered very inaccurate within the fitness industry. I am considered clinically obese yet I have around 10% body fat. BMI does not take into account muscle mass, therefore if you have a lot of muscle, which of course is heavier than fat then it is likely the BMI will be false.

I asked about weight loss and myasthenia. I think I gave the wrong email address. It should be as below.

I have Myasthenia Gravis and suffer really badly from fatigue amongst other things. The weight I have gained from taking the prescribed steroids has come down as they themselves have decreased but now I seem to be stuck at a weight and cant lose any more. I cant excercise - will by eating sensibly and diet alone eventually lose me the weight. It's my tummy area thats the worse.

I am getting so distressed about my weight. I have had weight problems all my life and have tried everything from lighter life to a balloon to weight watchers, presrcibed medications etc etc.. I have the occaisional loss but nothing significant. I go to the gym regulary where i do mainly cardio and by all accounts im told the weight will come off! i suffer with depression which isnt helped by weight the kind of have a knock on effect on each other. My self worth is at an all time low-my psychologist says you are what you eat=you eat salad and it will come off.The thing is i eat salad every day and plenty of fruit-im doing weight watchers again and track everything and still managed to gain 1/2 a stone in a week! i am sooo desperate now that I trawl boots to look at what tablet to try next, im afraid of any surgery and wanted to do it the healthy way but its just not working. I have had asthma from childhood and its getting worse since having my children and have frequent steroids. Could this add to my difficulty to loose weight? Im sorry if Im clutchimg at straws but I dont know what to do next. Please help! Many thanks Emma

this diet really works!! http://www.momswhothink.com/lose-weight-fast/3-day-diet.html

Stop beating yourself up about weight, go dancing, swimming, get new friends and DON'T DIET! You put on weight because you take in more that you work off, it's that simple. Good luck and be happy.

i dont think this will answer your question-but i am pretty much in the same boat as you.depression and stress can actually lead to weight gain,so try to stay as positive as you can and believe in yourself.i find this helps a lot,you could talk to a friend or family member about this also.chat has good ideas too:) hope i have helped you in some way!

Steriods do contribute to weight gain. You should talk to the doctor who gave them to you and see if you can get a different treatment. I use this site www.sparkpeople.com It helps you track food and exercise for free. I find it exceptionally helpful. But DEFINATLY go to the doctor.

I myself, also suffered from being overweight. I'm 18 and only just started to try and control my weight about a year ago. I started a healthy eating diet, very similar to Weight Watchers, 'Slimming world'. Not only did I shed the pounds(stones more like :P), but by promoting so much more veg and fruit in everyday meals, it has trained me to eat far healthier. I have been diagnosed with clinical depression also, although I find that eating more fruit and veg helps boost my mood and feel more motivated. Try swimming - a great deal of research has shown that swimming is a good way to relieve stress, and is a sure way of burning off calories. If you feel that your self esteem is too low to publicly exercise, which was the case for me until I lost a fair amount, then try household exercises ie. Hoovering, dusting, mopping, changing bed sheets - anything that will keep you on your feet, thus burning calories. It helps get the jobs done, makes you feel better about your environment AND, by putting a bit more effort in, you will notice the difference in no time. I hope I can help. Good luck and keep your head held high.
