Embarrassing Fat Bodies Episode 2

Vaginal Prolapse

First up this week is Elaine, who is concerned that she gets pain during sex and also has problems controlling her bladder. Dr Pixie identifies a Vaginal Prolapse as the problem, which is when the muscles and ligaments that hold the pelvic organs are weakened or damaged and the vaginal walls move. In Elaine’s case this has been caused by having had 3 children and being overweight. The prolapse is also preventing Elaine from exercising in order to lose her excess weight. Dr Pixie recommends that Elaine sees a gynaecologist, who explains that Elaine has a prolapse on the back wall of her vagina that is causing the rectum to bulge into it – this is called a Rectocele. Elaine has the Rectocele and her incontinence fixed in a double operation, which will allow her to start exercising and losing weight.

I had a TVT Teflon Vaginal Tape done about 9 years ago, it was the best thing I have ever done, before that I couldnt lift run up stairs cough or sneeze without wetting myself, it wasnt just a little dribble it was a full flood, since having it done life has returned to normal, I cant speak for everyone but it has worked for me.

wait till the mesh erodes then tell me its all ok

Hello... I was 24 stone a couple of years ago and knew I was uncontrollable around food which scared me as I had a little boy and was petrified I was going to eat myself into an early grave. I asked for help with a gastric band and was rejected which then left me feeling desperate and so I took out a loan to pay for the operation which I am still paying for now. Only thing is I've lost almost 14 stone and I having sagging skin around my thighs and my breasts look like spaniels ears. I have felt so ugly for years that I have been on my own for 6 years now as im afraid to let anyone see me. I have been a single mum since pregnancy and struggled to pay for my band but now im left miserable because of my sagging body. I try not to look at myself too often and hope it will just go away but I know deep down as I get older it will probably look even uglier. I am only 36 and scared that this will lead me to be alone for years to come. Does anyone know of any links or places where I could attempt to get some help, I would very much appreciate it... thank you

Hi all, what can I do about my daughters obesity? She used to be a well proportioned teenager but since living with her partner she is now close to 17st+ and it's destroying her self esteem/confidence. Her partner eats consistently on junk food and I'm convinced thats the problem. However, they do love each other and have a wonderfull 3 year old son. I did suggest that she saw her GP,and she claims that she went but there was nothing they could do. If I persist remarking about my concerns for her health she just get's annoyed. It really kills me inside to see her like this. Gratefull for any help. John.

You're beautiful no matter what you weigh, you need to learn to love yourself before others can. I think you need to work on you're confidence first. Being happy is more important than you're appearance Xxx

Thanks so much for wat u said but I find it impossible and now I'm crying again. But thanks. And I'll try.x

You need to deal with your depression first of all, Karen: it sounds as if the medication you are on isn't working, so ask the doctor for something else. Also ask to be referred for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy -- it changed my life and will change yours, if you can get it. As regards your weight issues, it does not sound as if the nurse is any help to you, so ask to see a dietitian. PLEASE don't let this get you down -- there is help available, and you will find it in due course. In the meantime, concentrate on who you are inside, not what you look like. Good luck. I will be thinking of you.

could meds be making you put on wt? doc might be able to recommend better one for you?

I paid to have a gastric banding six years ago and have lost over eight stone since I was at my heaviest. I have found it difficult to get help from the NHS to have an abdominoplasy and branchioplasty. I have been quoted over £11,000 for plastic surgery at Spire, however, after spending £6,500 on the initial banding I cannot afford this. I work full time and have since I was 17 years old. My GP referred me but the PCT wrote back saying I needed to lose another stone (impossible) and keep it off for 3 years before they would "consider" my case. I must admit to feeling slightly annoyed to see people come on to your programme and receive help, it seems with no questions asked, for what is classed as cosmetic surgery. The lady who underwent the branchioplasty recently had obviously already had previous surgery and it seems to me that people bare all to the country simply to obtain the surgery they desire when it is refused on the NHS. I know that from my own experiences that the NHS are not that sympathetic when it comes to such situations. I feel the producers need to should show the general public the knock-backs some people receive with regard to certain procedures and provide viewers with more realistic expectations. If only it was as simple as coming on TV, being referred to a cosmetic surgeon and living happily ever after!

Your right, they bare all to the country to get what they want and thats fine, the programme are paying for it, the NHS should not have to pick up these sort of tabs. Just because an operation is available doesn't mean you can have it. I am saving up to have surgery on my eyes, its not cosmetic, its not available on the tab (NHS) but I need it, so will carry on saving, if I dont I go without.

Can I just add that I agree with all the subsequent comments about obese people only having themselves to blame and no, I'm no different, I ate myself to 20 stone. Nobody force fed me, it was all my own doing. However, the point I was trying to get across was that the portrayal on the programme where obese patients are given banding/bypass surgery and others are able to have their cosmetic surgery is unrealistic and gives potential candidates false hope. It is rarely funded by NHS (depending on postcode I'm led to believe) and same for cosmetic surgery. I also agree that the NHS should not have to fund such procedures. I'm glad I paid to have it done, it has certainly changed my life, if not saved it! Thanks

I dont agree with gastric bands at all! If you eat sensibly and exercise you can lose the weight without surgery. If you lose weight after surgery it proves you were eating too much prior to surgery. People have too large portions today! An eat too much junk food, an dont do enough exercise, im losing weight still have 2 and half stone to go, yes its hard and taking me a while but at least im doing it myself without paying someone for surgery, this surgery should not be done on the NHS at all!

Im currently losing weight and have so far lost 4st 5lb !! but im starting to notice that my skin is saging :( is there anything i can do to try prevent this or at least help stop it getting to bad ??? i still have another 5st to lose.....many thanks

There's nothing you can do about this, i have the same problem. That's excess skin. If you have been overweight for a long time like i have, then excess will be inevitable. Only solution is surgery and don't believe anyone online who says you have to lose weight slowly to prevent excess skin thats nonsense.

I was watching the show today and come across a woman with problems with her rectum bulging through her vagina ,, i have this problem and when i go the toilet its even worse ,,, please could u give me some advice or numbers to contact to get help,,,,

I have the same problem and I am glad this has been brought to light on this show as I felt like a freak, I didnt realise there were other ladies like me. I did go to a gynocologist at a London Hospital but I felt intimidated as she was a thin lady and told me I should lose weight ( am 16 stone and 5ft 2, also if they operated it only worked on 60% of ladies and I would have to go through it all again if it didnt work. I was due to go back and have a ring inserted but didnt. If there was aplace I could go like the lady on tele I would be happy to get it done,,, but I would have to have a general anesthetic!!
