HIV

It is estimated that people with syphilis are 3-5 times more likely to catch HIV. This is because the genital sores caused by syphilis can bleed easily, making it is easier for the HIV virus to enter the blood system during sexual activity.

A co-infection of HIV and syphilis can be serious, as syphilis can progress much more rapidly than normal.
