NHS Choices Condition

If you have symptoms of vaginismus, talk to your GP about them.
Your GP will talk to you about the problem and base a diagnosis of vaginismus on your medical history, your symptoms and a physical examination if possible.
If vaginismus is caused by a physical problem, such as injury or infection, this will need to be treated.
Referral
If the cause is psychological, your GP may refer you to another health professional, such as a sex therapist or gynaecologist, who specialises in vaginismus.
You (and your partner, if you have one) may also need to be referred for some counselling. See Treatment, above, for more information.
