Boy 1: I think it’s quite normal for teenagers to worry about whether they’ve done it right, whether the other person enjoyed it, whether they even enjoyed it themselves.
Hollyoaks Actor 1: I always strap up
Hollyoaks Actor 2: Bag Up
Hollyoaks Actor 3: You should always hood up
Dr Dawn: You shouldn’t look or physically feel any different after sex than you did before.
It is common for girls to notice some bleeding after the first couple of times they have sex. This is caused by the hymen breaking. The hymen is a thin bit of tissue partly covering the opening of the vagina. It can be broken during sex but can also be broken when using a tampon or during activities like horse riding. If you are bleeding after sex regularly, not just after the first or second time, you should see your GP.
Girl 1: I think girls are concerned in case they get pregnant but also i think girls might think about if it fits or not.
Dr Dawn: Sex should be pleasurable not painful. When a girl’s aroused the vagina produces a lubricating fluid.
If foreplay is rushed or missed, the vagina won’t have had a chance to produce enough fluid and the friction will mean sex is painful and the vagina and penis sore.
Some women’s vaginas produce less secretions in which case it may be necessary to use a lubricant such as KY Jelly. But choose your lubricant carefully – the oils in Vaseline and some moisturisers can weaken condoms in seconds.
For anal sex it’s important to use a well lubricated condom. Insufficient lubrication can cause condoms to burst.
Girl 2: I think it’s important for people to concentrate on safe sex and things because i don’t think somebody would be grateful for passing something on.
Dr Dawn: If you’re sexually active and have noticed something unusual down below:
A new bump. Lump or rash. Pain, bleeding or abnormal discharge go and see someone.Either your GP or local sexual health clinic and you must be honest with them. If you’ve had unprotected sex you have put yourself at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection.
Chlamydia is the most common STI in the UK. Often there are no symptoms so people don’t even know they have it. Left untreated Chlamydia can cause fertility problems in both men and women. And in Britain 1 in 10 people under the age of 25 are infected. In 2007 Christian screened twenty under 25s for ChlamydiaÖ
*******
Dr Christian: Do you remember that statistic I told you about how many people we think on average are infected with chlamydia, what was it,do you remember?
Boy 1: I think it was one in ten.
Dr Christian: Yeah it was 1 in ten. Well your results quite frankly are shocking because out of twenty of you here 4 of you have tested positive for chlamydia, that’s 1 in 5. The great thing it’s really easy to treat. We can get rid of it with a dose of antibiotics.
*******
Dr Dawn: The most common STI seen at sexual health clinics in the UK is genital warts. They can be passed on just by sexual contact, penetrative sex isn’t even necessary and wearing a condom won’t give 100% protection. If you notice small, fleshy growths, bumps or skin changes in the genital or anal area, either externally or internally, get them checked out by your GP or local sexual health clinic, as you may have developed genital warts.
The second most common STI in the UK is gonorrhoea.
Symptoms include an unusual discharge from the penis or vagina, and a burning sensation when weeing. It’s a bacterial infection in the semen and vaginal fluids but just like Chlamydia it is possible to have gonorrhoea and have no symptoms at all but left untreated gonorrhoea can cause really serious health problem later in life.
On this site there is a checker for sexually transmitted infections, where you’ll be able to check your risk and find information on the various infections and symptoms. If you’ve had unprotected sex, it really is best to get checked out as quickly as possible. Don’t wait for a sign something’s wrong because often there are no symptoms.
Let’s face it, the subject of sex can be embarrassing but the embarrassment is no where near as bad as suffering in secret.
Am I Normal: After Sex
Dr Dawn Harper discusses what is and isn’t normal after sex. You shouldn’t look and feel any different after you’ve had sex, but there are a number of health concerns that teenagers should be aware of. With STIs on the rise throughout the UK, Dr Dawn examines some of the common issues that can arise and finds out what teenagers and the cast of Hollyoaks think about STIs.

my and my boyfriend regularly have sex annd for about a week now after sex i bleed from my vigina i blee through out the night but then stop until the next time we have sex whats going on? any ideas?
Me and my boyfriend have sex about once a week and its really good however whenever he cums (we dont used condoms im on the injection) when he takes his penis out the cum all comes out aswell is it because when he comes he doesnt push it in enough?
Cum is a liuid, it is because of gravity that it comes out.
ive had sex with my boyfriend for 3 months now, and we have always used a condom, until recently we tried without but he decided it was too painful and so we stopped. his penis didnt go fully in and he didnt come. im on the pill and had my period a week ago, and then after this it has come back after exactly 4 days? is this normal, im worried ive researched on google it could mean im pregnant?
his penis probably didnt go fully in because there wasnt enough lubricant, this will have caused him pain. i reccomend that next time, use a lubricant, or if not, add some foreplay before you start to get you more excited and wet, making sex easier and more fun!
After sex, I have really bad convulsions. Is this normal?
I have taken the pill for over a week but I took it late to miss my period over Christmas, however I then got my period, I was advised to still take the pill and not just stop. I had sex unprotected, I need to know, whats the chance of me being pregnant, im worried!
I think you should have still kept taking it
Nooo, i kept taking the pill
Hi, I'm Tanya and I'm 17. I have sore cold-sore like things in my mouth behind my lips and a couple on my tongue. I noticed this not long after having sex. Is this something I should be worried about? Can I get rid of them?
Abriva could do the trick, if its not available in your region go see your GP
that sounds like herpes, did you give your bf/gf oral sex? you both need to get checked out
Hello im 16 and have had sex with my boyfriend a couple of times, we used a condom. I have been with him two years and we were both each others first times. But my vagina looks abnormal a bit like skin tag looking things all around the clit? I don't know what it is..
Im 16 and I hav been having sex for over six months but the last 2 times I had it when his penis goes in it stings ? Wat does this mean!!!!???! .
you've got sistitis buddy! it means you've got cum in your pee pee hole. you should wash yourself after sex. you can go to the doc and some pills will get rid of it.
Everytime i have sex with my bf i get a tear at the bottom of my vaginal opening. it heals kinda but retears each time. its so painful as i can feel the skin ripping! sometimes we cant have sex because im in agony from it. This obviously isnt normal does anyone have any explanations or advice?
Maybe he hasn't broken your hymen all the way, and every time it rips a little more? That's my best guess.
Hi im 19, and recently ive had the constant need to to the toilet after sex, a few hour after. It goes after a while, ive been with my bf for 9 months, is it becuase he may be too big and irritating my muscles there therefore i cant hold my urine? it also stings a tiny bit, help please! :( x
sounds like you have a water infection, nip to the docs for some antibiotics. it will also help if you urinate before and after sex
