Body Check – Sweat Transcript
Dr Christian: Whether we like it or not we all sweat.
And without it we’d die. Sweating is essential to regulate body temperature and stop our organs from over heating.
And even at rest in a cool environment a normal person loses about half a litre of sweat in a day.
Some people sweat more than others, usually men sweat more than women and some people can sweat excessively with a condition called hyperhidrosis.
However much you sweat it’s essential to keep hydrated aAnd there’s an easy way to check your sweat rate at home, so you can keep your hydration levels just right.
You need to weigh yourself before and after a work out ñ in the same clothes.
You should keep hydrated while exercising so for an accurate test weigh yourself holding the amount of water you intend to drink. And make sure to hold whatever’s left over for the post training weigh in.
Time how long you exercise for and then use our online calculator to determine how much fluid you’ve lost.

Dr Christian: Come on guys, i wanna see you sweating! Even on this freezing day this is how much fluid these guys have lost.
Dr Christian: Right guys, well I’ve done the maths you managed to lose during in your training session 1.8 kilos. So nearly double actually what a lot of these guys lost. You guys basically, on average, need to rehydrate yourselves with about a litre per hour because that’s what you’re losing. Does that make sense? You probably a little bit more, you need about sort of 1 and a half litres per hour.

Dr Christian:Knowing your sweat levels will help you get your levels of hydration just right.
Because if you don’t drink enough, you’re body can’t produce enough sweat to keep itself cool. And this can put a strain on your heart.
If you drink far too much water you’re at risk of over diluting your sodium levels in your blood and this can be fatal.
For this body check and others featured on the site we want to hear about your findings. So please come back and share your results and discuss them with other site users.
And if you have any concerns about your sweat levels or think you may be sweating excessively then make sure to contact your GP.

For some time now, I've had a small area of skin in one of armpits covered in tiny spots and although they don't cause any discomfort I would like to know if anyone else has them and what they might be? They do not contain any fluid but occassionally they become itchy and if I scratch the skin turns red and the spots swell a little. Many thanks

You should go to a Boots (or any) farmacy and buy DRICLOR. This is the strongest antiperspirant u can get and i promise it will work. I am very happy with it, it changed my life. Try it.
I am a 14 year old girl snd I SWEAT AT THE TOP OF MY LEGS AND WEN i SIT DOWN I AM WORRIED THAT WEN I STAND UP THERE WILL BE A WET PATCH IT IS REALLY EMBARRASSING!!
From as long as i can remember I do not sweat much and i am worried this might be really bad for my health. When i was in my teens and did aerobics with my friends they would come out really wet but I would not sweat at all. I would have a very red face and my hands would feel really swollen. My feet really suffer badly and can crack which is what started my enquiry in the first place. I am now 48 but I worry about this now alot. .
i am a 39 year old woman and when going to sleep settle very quickly but within hours find that i wake because i have sweated so much my nightwear and sheets are soaking wet and am woken because ive become cold, Once i have changed my nightwear i can fall asleep again only to wake within an hour with the same problem. During the day i have no issues with sweating. I have seen the GP must the issue was dismissed so i have not been back due to the embarrasment of the problem
