Body Check – Sweat Transcript
Dr Christian: Whether we like it or not we all sweat.
And without it we’d die. Sweating is essential to regulate body temperature and stop our organs from over heating.
And even at rest in a cool environment a normal person loses about half a litre of sweat in a day.
Some people sweat more than others, usually men sweat more than women and some people can sweat excessively with a condition called hyperhidrosis.
However much you sweat it’s essential to keep hydrated aAnd there’s an easy way to check your sweat rate at home, so you can keep your hydration levels just right.
You need to weigh yourself before and after a work out ñ in the same clothes.
You should keep hydrated while exercising so for an accurate test weigh yourself holding the amount of water you intend to drink. And make sure to hold whatever’s left over for the post training weigh in.
Time how long you exercise for and then use our online calculator to determine how much fluid you’ve lost.

Dr Christian: Come on guys, i wanna see you sweating! Even on this freezing day this is how much fluid these guys have lost.
Dr Christian: Right guys, well I’ve done the maths you managed to lose during in your training session 1.8 kilos. So nearly double actually what a lot of these guys lost. You guys basically, on average, need to rehydrate yourselves with about a litre per hour because that’s what you’re losing. Does that make sense? You probably a little bit more, you need about sort of 1 and a half litres per hour.

Dr Christian:Knowing your sweat levels will help you get your levels of hydration just right.
Because if you don’t drink enough, you’re body can’t produce enough sweat to keep itself cool. And this can put a strain on your heart.
If you drink far too much water you’re at risk of over diluting your sodium levels in your blood and this can be fatal.
For this body check and others featured on the site we want to hear about your findings. So please come back and share your results and discuss them with other site users.
And if you have any concerns about your sweat levels or think you may be sweating excessively then make sure to contact your GP.

i have had the sympathectomy operation to the sweat glands under my armpits, i would advise anyone not to have this done, i now sweat from my chest all the way down my whole torso, i have been back to the hospital many times and even seen the top man in the country, only to be told that, that was a possibility that could happen after the operation, doesnt help me much now, used to lov going out, wearing bright coloured clothes, now have to make sure my clothes are not to tight and iam always dressed in black to hide the sweat.
Hi My wife does not sweat at all, we try to workout together and I can break out a sweat during the warmup. After a fifteen minute jog nothing happens no sweat for her. Why is that? What can she do to sweat. Thanks
I'm 14, and I always have sweaty palms, and whenever I sit down at school, there's always a wet patch on the chair, it's so embarrassing when I stand up because everyone can see it on the chair. Only one person I know has mentioned it. It's hard to hide it, but I haven't tried anything to get rid of it. I'm too scared to go to the doctors about it.
I get the same thing & have dine for about 9yrs! :( wearing loose fitting clothing & cotton clothing may stop the sweat marks on the seat, I usually shuffled to the end of the seat a few mins before I had to get up so there wasn't a mark left. I also have over active sweat glands in my underarms & my hands. Go to a doctor - they can either refer you or help you themselves. It can really knock your confidence - so go soon! It's totally normal tho!
it is obvious you sweat on a hot day! I can be out just started walking 5 minutes if you are lucky, and I am starting to sweat like mad! Also, My feet are soaking wet with all the sweating! my sock's and my trainers are also soaking and stinking with all the sweat! It doe's not matter how many times I put clean socks on, it all ends up the same.
Since i was little i have had tiny sports just near my armpit, they are the same colour as my skin. They went for a couple of years but it seems like they have came back? I dont know what they are? Are they cause by sweat? Thank You :)

i had the exact same problem as you all throughout school and university. i wore a black cardigan everyday no mater how warm it was. nothing worked and it massively affected my confidence. when i was 21 i eventually plucked up the courage to go to the doctors and within a couple of minutes i had been prescribed Anhydrol Forte. it's amazing! its burns a lot when you first use it but after about 6 months of using it every other day i found i only needed it once a month. i dont need it any more, i just use a deodorant like sure maximum protection if i feel i need it but otherwise i can just use regular deodorant now. go to see your doctor, i wish i'd done it when i was 14!!
I have the same problem i've had it since the age of 15 and i'm 17 now but i'm embarrassed about telling anyone I've used most of the underarm sprays but they don't seem to work
For some time now, I've had a small area of skin in one of armpits covered in tiny spots and although they don't cause any discomfort I would like to know if anyone else has them and what they might be? They do not contain any fluid but occassionally they become itchy and if I scratch the skin turns red and the spots swell a little. Many thanks
I have the same problem...im 13...i have the same theyre like tiny little white spots...mine dont really itch or swell...my best friend has them aswell, i dont think its anyone to worry about really "/
sounds like it could be candidiasis.. go to your gp and they can diagnose and prescribe you cream to apply
