I have 2 bunionettes on both my feet which cause me alot of pain as im on my feet alot of hours. I went to my doctors and asked if it was possible for them to do anything about them i.e surgery. they replyed saying it isnt free on the NHS anymore which was very disapointing as i am only 18. How much is it to pay for the surgery?
That isn't true. If they are causing you pain and you aren't just having it done for cosmetic reasons then you can get it on the NHS. I got the one on my right foot done recently. The time span from first going to the doctor to having the op was only 8 months, it could have been done sooner, within 6 months but the first date quoted wasn't convenient. I suggest going back to your surgery but see a different doctor.
I have a bunion on my left foot and it is causing me pain all the time - even in bare feet. I've researched a an experienced orthopaedic surgeon that carries out minimal invasive surgery but he is on the south coast. I live on Merseyside. How do I go about finding a local experienced NHS surgeon?
Hi, I was wondering whether you could provide me with more information regarding minimally invasive bunion surgery. I have bunions on both feet and would like to have them removed. What is the cost of this procedure and it is available on the NHS? Any information would be appreciated.
I have just been to GP and he gave me a hard time over whether the NHS should fund my (servere)bunions as they do not give me pain (i'm 40 and had them all my life). However I made my case that they weren't going to get better were they and it was impossible now to get footwear. I was refered to consultant at Portsmouth. He took one look and agreed to do both as a day patient. He said I would have arthiritis if they weren't sorted. He also said that GP's always try and put people off but surgery has improved massively in the last 15 years and keyhole surgery is widely available now on the NHS. Hope this helps.

Charming! How can the doctor say those poor peoples feet look disgusting and then claim to be unshockable. I have grim feet too. Nice to know the doctor is really thinking "Yuck".
I was born with them my father and grandmother both had them !!
High heels do not always cause bunions as the doctor suggested. I have NEVER worn these and I developed a bunion. Joanne
I'm considering having surgery on my right foot bunion but would prefer the keyhole surgery method featured in your show which seems less invasive than the convenional method. I live in High Peak district of Derbyshire and I will be extremely grateful for any information as to whether there is a surgeon in a hospital located near me or in the North West, who would perform the surgery or how I may contact the surgeon who performed the operation in your show. Thank you.
As above,I am querying where to have the bunion op,cost and if available on the NHS?
It is genetic, and can only be fixed with surgery. Foot exercise is nonsense. In the USA you'd get surgery covered by insurance. I can't believe the doctor was blaming her for wearing high heals, bottom line it's genetic.
