Consultation: Cystitis

Cystitis can affect anyone but it seems to particulary plague women (the excessive amounts of cranberry juice they drink usually gives them away). Around 40% of women will get cystitis (an inflammation of the lining of the bladder) in their lifetime and it can be quite painful. Dr Pixie McKenna is on hand to diagnose the condition and provide helpful tips on preventing cystitis in this consultation that featured in series one of Embarrassing Illnesses.

I am 24 and have suffered with cystitis for years. A couple of years ago I went for a bladder/kidney scan but nothing was detected. The only advice that I received from my doctor was the usual: drink plenty of water, go to the loo before and after sex etc etc. Antibiotics seemed to get rid of the pain and discomfort for a short time but within a week it had re-appeared. Having read the comments above, I now know that I am not alone fighting this constant battle.

i am 40 years old and have had cystitis many a time, this time however there was a lot of blood in my urine. paid g.p a visit to be given the usual tablets was not given much time. have back pain and a very nasty pain in my right hand side and above my pubic bone. general unwell feeling. being an old hand with cystitis was concerned as these sympoms seem more full on than usual

ive recently been to the doctors because i knew i had cystitus but this time im bleeding quite heavy wiv it during me going to the toilet, im also leaking slightly without knowing about it. ive never bleed wiv it before and the doctor didnt seem interested and i was in there for no more then 30 seconds and just prescribed me antibiotics. not only that but more or less every time during and after sex i get lower abdomonal pains and sometimes have to stop. is this also due the my water infection or not?

Hi, im a 23 year old woman who has had cystis about three times in the past year, wel the doctor always says its that and gives me antibiotics…but i seem to think diffrently, i seem to always have a strong yellowy coloured wee (duznt realy leave me) that is quite often cloudy, an am sometimes unsure of wether or not i need to go to the toilet strait away, like do i or dnt i!! like theres slight pressure on my bladder but not quite wantin to go! funny feeling realy. the only time i realy go to the doctor about anything tho is wen it gets painfull an the last time i notice there was a pinkish tint in my urine and lata found out it was blood. do u think its recurind cystitis or possibly sumthing else? thank u

I am 17 years old and have suffered badly with cystitus for about 3 years now. I am completely at whits end as I have now lost complete control of my bladder, I feel really ill and it's really painful to go to the toilet. I get cystitus atleast 6 times a month, also getting it during work which is very embarrasing. I am scared to go anywhere for fear of wetting myself (sorry to put it bluntly). I have been to the doctors numerous amounts of times. Some doctors have said that its all in my head! Others have tested my urine and have only found an infection a few times, other times they cannot find anything. Help :(

a think ppl like that should go docters thats not all that bad
