Consultation: Mole Check-Up
Some of us seem to be completely covered in moles, while others of us have hardly any at all. However, as Dr Dawn Harper explains to a patient from series one of Embarrassing Illnesses, we all get more as we grow older. But Dr Harper also discusses the changes in moles that we should be aware of, and what to do if we are concerned.

hi i have a smallish mole that appeared around 6 years ago on my arm. i worked abroad for 4 years and was expossed to the sun alot.the mole has changed over a period of time in size(getting bigger, now 5mm/5mm)and in colour, from black to now light brown with a black flek. it often iches and lately have developed a white hailo around it. i've visited my asighed doctor and she has said its nothing. however i've lost faith and trust in my asighed doctor for a few reasons. thankyou for reading this and i hope you can help.
Hi, yesterday i had a really itchy feeling on my lower back and i showed my partner when i got home from work and he said it was either a mole or a spot, i had been scratching at it all day so it was quite inflamed and red in colour. today he says it looks like more of a mole and it is not as itchy today . i am worried because i have already had to have a mole removed on the top of my back which was not malignant melanoma, i have been left with an awful keloid scar. do you think i should be worried about this? thanks Claire xxx
I had 3 non-cancerous moles chemically cauterized last year.(One was the width of a pencil rubber by my ear and I always felt self-conscious about putting my hair up). The process wasn't too painful and has left minimal scarring, but as I had it done privately for cosmetic reasons and not medical, it was quite expensive. I reccommend getting them checked out by your GP anyway, just to be on the safe side.
I have a mole on the side of my breast. It has changed slightly in size, the colouring has bled into my skin, leaving a darker centre and at time has become itchy. Any ideas? thanks.
