Consultation: Psoriasis

Psoriasis is quite rare, affecting around 2% of the population, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less distressing. Dr Dawn Harper examines a patient who just wants to be normal again and she is referred to a specialist who suggests a course of light treatment may provide some light relief.

im suffering from psoriasis since i was 27. im now 42.i have tried all kind of creams-they help but for a short period of time. I have then tried homeopathic.the results were amazing. i was almost completely cured for 3-4 yrs. i then stopped homeopathic and that was a big mistake. a huge flare and psoriasis was back again very severe. i am now back to homeopeathic hoping to control it.

Hello, I have suffered with Psoriasis for many years now. I too found that the sunshine and sea water helped me whilst I was out in Dubai. Skincap Spray gets rid of it completely for a short while but then it will come back. Dovobet Ointment us very good also but you must protect your normal skin with White soft parafin/liquid parafin mix. It will often go in the summer and come back in the winter.

I've started using xamiol gel (dovobet) on my scalp as I found that dovobet cream worked well with psoriasis in other parts of my body. Have used it on three occasions and really impressed with the effects so far, itchiness and tightness has vanished and no major flaking. Hallelulah!

Hi, I have suffered from psoriasis for 5 years. In winter it flares up and then in summer it goes as I go in the sun . Last year it got terrible with me being covered literally from head to toe; hands, wrists, feet, legs, arms, tummy scalp EVERY bit of my body. It was a reaction to stress for the greatest part, eventhough I didn't know that then. It does go away being exposed to sun and I found seawater clearing up the scalp. My advise; treat yourself to 2 or 3 weeks of sunshine therapy in the south of france and you will relax & it will fade a great deal. There is this great 5 km long sandy beach; Plage de Pampelonne, a couple of kms from Saint Tropez. The weather's normally good (or even great) from april to october-avoid july and august as it's proper tourist busy. There are plenty of low budget farm campsites 10 mins from the beach.

I'm 17 and have had scalp psoriasis for the last 3 years. I tried Dovonex Scalp Solution but when I applied it to my hairline it caused a psoriasis-like rash on my face - Fortunately that cleared up in a week but my scalp has never gotten any better. I'm now using Cocois but it's also very annoying to use everyday and quite messy. I haven't tied my hair up or pushed my fringe back since I developed this but it's really getting me down and because it's not severe enough for any stronger treatments I've just given up hope that I'll ever be able to manage it. Any suggestions would be helpful :)
