Hormone replacement therapy is commonly used to treat the negative symptoms associated with the depletion of the sex hormones oestrogen (in women) and testosterone (in men) such as irritability and lack of energy. Here septuagenarian couple Lillian and Ian tell us about another more positive effect of HRT – an increased libido.

I am 55 and have been taking HRT since going through an early menopause at 39 - I had to have a full hysterectomy at 52 and asked - nay begged my doctor to keep me on HRT (Climaval). I never want to come off it. My sex drive is better than it was 20 years ago and my energy levels are still high. I've told my doctor that if she takes me off it - I'll buy it off the internet. Apparently there is a bigger risk of Strokes/Breast cancer but to me the +s far outweigh the downside. I'd rather die after a short fulfilled life than live to be 100 miserable. I'd recommend that everyone who can - takes it

Can someone please give us the answer to all the people that has asked ( What did Lillian use that helped them so much))at least the name of the product/Tablets/Cream we all want to know but no one is responding to this question ??? WHY !!!

Lilian found out about an Australian cream for post menopausal women Called Androfem cream. It has a 1% testosteran component. You apply a tiny spot on to the clit hood daily.Once your libido has improved you gradually reduce the rate of application. After about 6 months she was only having one spot a week. She has now been on this level for more than four Years.

I am 57 and had a heart attack last year before which I had been on HRT for a number of years. I have now had to come off the HRT and am experiencing vaginal dryness and night sweats. I have tried all the usual lubricating gels without success and don't know what to take which won't conflict with my heart attack medicines. Has anybody been in a similar situation and found any solutions?

I have also been to my GP (female) several times, only to be given gel for vaginal dryness and nothing else. I had a hysterectomy 17 years ago, left with 1 ovary but now have gone through the menopause. My husband and I do not have a sex life, my sex drive is zilch and when we have tried it is so painful that we can't continue. At 57 I feel this is too early to call it a day. Please tell us what the tablets were called that Lillian took, then I could ask my GP if they would be suitable. Here's hoping I get a reply.Thank you in anticipation.

You should try Vagifem on presciption. It is a Vaginal tablet inserted twice weekly. It is a very small dose of estradiol. It brings relief within about week.

I watched that episode and like all the other 60 yr old females could do with some of that. Why is it on the programme they tell us about these miracle drugs but when we go to our own doctors nothing exist. Please advise..

My wife’s libido has diminished to zero over the last 4 years as she passed through the menopause. She did visit our GP over that period and we have also been together on at least 4 occasions only to be dismissed and told there is nothing available to treat this. (She was prescribed Vagifem for her vaginal dryness) This does have a detrimental effect on a married couple’s relationship. The channel 4 programme Embarrassing Old Bodies series 2 episode 12 raised our hopes only to be dashed by our GP again at another visit at the end of last year. What are the Testosterone tablets called that the lady from Aberdeen is taking and where are they available from?

Oh, I would so like to be like the couple from Aberdene! I had a total hysterectomy 9 years ago, then had HRT for a couple of years. My blood pressure went through the roof and I was taken off of it. I now have no sex drive at all! I spoke to my GP who said "just lie back and think of England to please my husband". What about ME!!! I am 58 and have always been sexually active with my husband. This is really taking it's toll on my marriage. Hubby understands but keeps saying "go back to the GP, but when I do (and see a different Dr) I am made to feel I should not worry about it! I would like to know if I could have that gel to rub on my skin. GP's always seem to help the man but not the ladies.
