How To Check Your Breasts

1 in 9 women will get breast cancer at some point in their lives, and at least at a third of women will not self-check their breasts. Early diagnosis is essential in treating breast cancer, and that’s where monthly self-checks come in. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! Dr Dawn Harper’s guide will give you advice on exactly how to self-check your boobs.

If you’d prefer to carry out this check away from your computer, then download our specially produced version for your mobile phone from the Channel 4 Mobile site.

I am a 13 yr old girl and i recently discoverd a lump under my nipple...it really can be quite painful I went to a doctor and it wa checked by two doctors...they told me not to worry about it and said to use the anti-biotics if it swelled up... At the moment it is still there and i get a tingling feeling sometimes. Also do you think it is caused by my period as i havent had one before. Will it go down by itself? As i really dont want to have iit drained.

How should a lump in the breast feel? I can not seem to differentiate between the fatty tissue there and a lump, if that. I am conerned if what i felt is a lump or the milk duct or the adipose/fatty tissue...

I can feel a small lump under my right armpit which is sometimes tender. I thought it may have been a spot, boil or ingrown hait, but it hasnt materialised into anything on top of the skin. It is bigger than a pea (smaller than a kidney bean) Any ideas? I cant always find it either which puzzles me.

I am 41 and had a mammorgamme in Jan 2010. it was normal. I have lost 4 stone in the last 2 years and have recently noticed by left breast goes in further in shape than my right breast, this is only when hands by my side, when hands on hips and above head they are the same, they say about changes to breast so not sure if this is ok, if there was something wrong wouldn't it always be noticeable ???

hello, I have lost 4 stone in weight within the last 2 years. I have recently noticed that my breasts are slighty different in appearance when my arms are by my sides, one goes in slightly more than the other, when I put my hands on my hips or above my head there is no difference, only when arms by my side, why could this be, is it muscle, also not so noticeable when I am cold and nipples erect.
