How To Check Your Breasts

1 in 9 women will get breast cancer at some point in their lives, and at least a third of women will not self-check their breasts. Early diagnosis is essential in treating breast cancer, and that’s where monthly self-checks come in. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! Dr Dawn Harper’s guide will give you advice on exactly how to self-check your boobs.

I'm 27 and have had lumps in my breasts since I was 17. I had a screening and got fluid drawn out of them a few years ago and it just turned out to be FBD. But lately the lumps have been getting larger and more and more are appearing. I don't want to waste the doctors time if the lumps are FBD but, they really, really hurt all the time. I was wondering if women that have FBD should or need to get there brests screened regularly?

I am 32 & 'male' but was born with hormone imbalance that was never corected as a result I Had a very low to non existent testeronen by the age of 17 I had 35c bust. When I was 23 I had a lot of pain & lump, because I was embarassed & on an one occasion I went to GPn I heard one of staff make A comment I was to embarassed to go back. Eventualy it got so bad that when I saw a mobile Van offering Check ups in a Shopping centre car park I whent in. Far from being surprised they said that I was not first. I had the mamogam done at a local hospital after they said They were worried,I then had a Biopsy & other tests done & it came back positive. I had both the breasts removed & a long course Of radio & chemo. I was okay until a few months ago & now it Has come back. It seem like there is a Tabbo about talking about males Geting Breast cancer & talking to Nurses by the time it is Diagnosed in males it is normaly too late ! I also don't aggre withe rules of there being an age limit Too Breast screening & I think that any Female or Male Should be able to have it done even if a GP says don't worry Its nothing or all in your mindab When I was having treatment 1st time around & when they Removed breasts (Which I grew too love & so did my girlfrien) there were 9 Females going through same the youngest was 18! The oldest was 34 another 4 were In there 20! It seems both Drs & Consaultants forget that Girls now Can begin to go through Puberty or have there first period before they are in there teens , Were as the group thhey target probbably didn' until they were 4-5 years later. Just because someone is not the right age is wrong & if can put them off going back! Also remember Males can get it too Though I use that loosley with myself! TALk ABOUT It it still seems to be tabbo ..Till its too late! By way I have had great support from my nurses though this time I am in Private hospitaln last time in NHS were suportive & so were the women I metm

Hi I may be wrong but as far as I'm aware those little lumps are normal - I have those and when I looked up what they were it said these are where the milk comes out when you breast feed...so nothing to worry about perfectly normal! Though obviously I'm not a doctor so if you're concerned visit your GP!

Hi I'm a 22 year old mother of two and I'm not sure what the little bumps around my nipples are, but I know that our milk comes from the part of the nipple that gets hard when its cold out. ( my apologies for my lack of technical terms for the human anatomy ) but I do also have small bumps at the tip of my nipple that actually do release milk. My whole point is, the bumps are nothing to worry about. Small bumps that kinda resemble goosebumps are common.

I have small B cup boobs and have recently noticed my left boob is a lot more lumpier than the right, the lumps feel almost grisily and follow up under my armpit. Is this normal? i cant feel them in my right boob or right armpit?

I have exactly the same problem! Would like to know the answer too as i find it quite worrying.

I'm 5'6" tall and have a 32H bust. The more weight I lose the bigger the cup size seems to get. I think H is ridiculous and do get some back pain/tension. Is this too big? What defines too big?
