Around 80% of teenagers will have some form of acne by the time they’re 18, and around 1 in 5 adults can also suffer in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. In this exclusive guide, Dr McKenna addresses the cause of acne and dispels many of the most popular myths about the condition. She also advises on the best treatments available, from over-the-counter creams, lotions and gels, to prescription medication and laser treatment. If spots have been the bane of your life, this video will reassure you that they’re not a permanent fixture.

Hi, i'm 13 and i have had spots since i was about 8! i am not unclean i bathe twice daily and have used all the different skincare products i could get my hands on! so i know what it feels like guys when people say just stop touching your face cuz it makes it dirty or eat healthily. but drinking lots of water and eating healthily does help it a lot. try and reduce your make up and when possible don't share make up and try and go bare faced to let your skin breathe. however i'm now on anit-biotics from the doctor and they dont really do much but apparently they take a while for them to work, i've used them for 3 months now and i think i had bewtter skin not using them. there is quite a good ointment available from your doctor called stiemycin topical lotion. it burns and takes regualr applications and a bit of time for it to work but the results are worth it. hope my advice helped :)

Hi i am currently 17 years of age and have had recurring spots around my face usually my cheeks and forehead. I have also spots on my nose which annoy me because they are usually large in size and uncomfortable. I was wondering if anybody will know any antibiotics that i could take or medicine that will clear them up. I have been spot free since the age of 15 but now they have hit me really hard. They go away and come back i rarely have days were my face is completely clear of them. Any suggestions?

hi im 13 and have quite a few spots on my face. they tend to be around my nose and some on my cheeks im also getting them around my lip a lot and ive had this one big one under my lip on my chin for over 4 months now and it wont go away -ive used oxy stuff (even tho im a girl) tea tree cream and i use clean and clear blackhead fighting scrub & cleanser every morning and evening is there anything i can do to make them go away? plz help!

I'm 14 years old, and i have no idea if this is normal or not, but i have lots of very tiny spots by the sides of my nose, along my cheek bones by my nose and on my chin, you can only see it properly close up, but its red, the spots arent like white or black, but there is redness around them, ive tried many different spot creams, facial washes and scrubs but they just dont go away, if i get spots anywhere else, i can almost be sure that in a few days their gone, but the ones on my nose, cheeks and chin have stayed, i sometimes scratch them without thinking and ive heard scarring can sometimes looks like the spots are still there, and ive also heard excma can look like spots, there is a posibility its exema because my dad has it, but i cant be sure :( Thanks

I love this show, but this doesn't seem to apply to me. My diet definitely causes my acne. When I'm away from home and eating what I make, no acne. When I'm at home and someone else is cooking for me (Very different stuff to what I cook for myself), it comes back. I've heard (and read) from other GPs who say they're tired of hearing that 'diet and acne are not connected'. There have been studies of communities which don't have a western diet, and they have had not one single case of acne. There was even a long study on Inuit skin as they transitioned from their traditional diet to a western one. Before: no acne at all, on anyone. After: quite a lot of acne…
