Quick Health Advice: Excessive Sweating
Our bodies lose one litre of sweat every day. However, sufferers of hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating) can lose 4-5 times this amount. In this exclusive guide, Dr McKenna advises on various self-help methods to tackle this condition and explains the treatment options available for sufferers. And remember, it’s not the sweat that smells – it’s the dried sweat in your clothes!

Im nineteens years old, and have had excessive sweat problems since puberty. I now sweat down my back, under my breasts (which is making them red and sore) and even on my chest, after just walking down the street. Im really self concious about it which again i think makes me sweat even more. Its horrible, especially looking back at pictures from nights out etc and all you notice is sweat marks from armpit to elbow! There is an antiperspirant roll on that i was given by my GP to put on at night called Driclor (sp) It works, if i don't sweat during the night, but it makes my skin red, itchy and broken. It is also not useful for other parts of the body. It really is such a horrible and uncomfortable condition to live with. Even when its minus degree's outside, i still sweat. :(
Hi, I suffer from sweating feet, hands and underarms, it is so bad that my partner will not hold hands with me, my shoes turn to mold and stink, my clothes stain and seem to go crusty and still smell after washing, been to the GP and nothing works, HELP. I watch this program when its on and saw a lady who was suffering with sweaty hands and feet and she was offered a treatment that seems to work, she had her hands and feet (at different times) emersed in water and electricity was passed through the water, she said that the sweatying had gone. I NEED THIS TREATMENT. Please can you help me with any information regarding this treatment I would like to try it.
i am 14 and am having problems with sweating, whenever i have pe at school afterwards i am really sweaty everwhere..my face, hair, and my body and i get embarressed i know it's normal to sweat after excersise but not as much as this it happens whatever i do and it's really embarrassing! i wish it would just go away! if i didnt have this problem then my life would be all good!!
i have excessive sweating and have had it since i could remeber which has been along time. i dont have no confidence because of it but love bright colours but i have been trying lots od different deodrants and they didnt work so i went to my gp and they gave me some special treatment i need to put on at night and it will eventually block my pores so i gradually sweat less and less and already its gave me confidence in myself
I have suffered from sweaty hands for around 2years now and it is really starting to run my life, I feel I can't shake hands with people as I get a comment, they leave marks on table's and overall it is very embarasing. Is there anything I can do ?
Hi. I'm 17 and have had excessive sweating of the underarms for a while now. I've tried basically all antiperspirants and have had no luck. I've been to my gp twice now and he gave me Driclor in both roll on form and spray form, however I experienced burning and itching with both so I stopped using it. He then told me there is nothing he can do for me and no one I can be referred to... I live in Birmingham and was wondering if anyone knew any places I can go to in my area to talk to?
There are more options. I tried all the treatments mentioned above and botox injections with no/little success (the botox injections were really painful too). My gp referred me to a plastic surgeon and I had surgery to remove layers of the sweat glands from both axillae. This did help relive some sweating for a little while (6 months or so), however, it is now as bad as it ever was to begin with. As i've got older, i'm 25 now, you just learn to live around. Also the less you worry the less you sweat!
hi,im 14 and although i wash under my armpits with soap and then dry my armpits and use deodrant(spray) it doesnt work because i still smell. i dont get wet patches on my clothes i just get a horrible smell of b.o on them which makes me self concious. how can i make the smell go away??
I HAVE THIS EXCESSIVE SWEATING PROBLEM FOR YEARS NOW AND NOT GETTING ANY BETTER. Once I do any bit of work at all I am soaking wet after a half hour. Then of course if you cant change your clothes you are wet and cold after sweat cools down. Have blood tests done but all clear. Anyone any ideas as this getting worse and hard to work.
