Quick Health Advice: Excessive Sweating
Our bodies lose one litre of sweat every day. However, sufferers of hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating) can lose 4-5 times this amount. In this exclusive guide, Dr McKenna advises on various self-help methods to tackle this condition and explains the treatment options available for sufferers. And remember, it’s not the sweat that smells – it’s the dried sweat in your clothes!

I am 39 yrs old and suffered from hyperdrosis as a child in my hands, I couldnt hold a pen without it slipping and my work was always smudged. At 10 I had double sympathectomy surgery under each armpit to stop the sweating. Since then the excessive sweating to my hands stopped but then I started to get sweat profusely from the back of my neck, face, inside elbows whn eating. Certain foods trigger it more than others but it has become so bad that I cannot eat in restaurants anymore..and I need a towel to hand. I recently saw on the show that woman sweated from her head and Dr Jessop mentioned a medication that she could take....can anyone help me with the name of that medication. I visited my doctor yesterday but she wasnt very helpful, at first she said there was no medication for it and then when I told her about what I heard on this programme she told me to go away and find out the name of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
did you ever get an answer to this? i would like to know too.

Hi there. I know just what you are going through as I have the same problems. I, like you have Raynauds where my hands and feet are blue from cold yet sweating buckets at the same time. Please tell your GP about it. I am sure he/she will be very sympathetic and try to help as doctor does. I was prescribed medication for the sweating and medication to help to warm my hands and feet. I often do not know which medicine to take as like you i am cold and sweating at the same time. I continue to report to my GP about this and hope we can find a more effective treatment. Don't be embarrassed to talk to your doctor. I wish you good luck for the future.
